Ho Chi Minh City plans to choose Literature, Math, and Foreign Language as entrance exam subjects for grade 10 in 2026

The information was provided by Mr. Nguyen Bao Quoc, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City on the morning of July 16.

Accordingly, the 10th grade enrollment in Ho Chi Minh City for the 2026-2027 school year is expected to combine both admission and entrance exams.

According to Mr. Quoc, the 10th grade admission plan for the 2026-2027 school year submitted to the Director of the Department of Education and Training is as follows: Admission to 10th grade at public high schools in some special areas; Public high schools in the remaining areas will enroll 10th grade students by taking an entrance exam in 3 subjects: Literature, Math, and Foreign Language.

This is to maintain stability and create convenience for parents, students and schools after the merger of Binh Duong, Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Ho Chi Minh City.

Keeping the three entrance exam subjects of Literature, Math, and Foreign Language stable in the 10th grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City for the 2026-2027 school year is aimed at creating stability and convenience for parents, students, and schools after the merger of the three provinces.

Before the merger, Literature, Math and Foreign Language were the three entrance exams for grade 10 in 2025 in Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau. Ho Chi Minh City also kept the above three subjects as entrance exams for grade 10 for many years.

Previously, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City Nguyen Van Hieu had given instructions related to the enrollment work for grade 10 in Ho Chi Minh City (new) for the 2026-2027 school year.

The Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City requested the General Education Department (chaired by the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City) to coordinate with the Department of Quality Management to advise on the enrollment plan for grade 10 in the 2026-2027 school year as early as September 2025 so that students and teachers of educational institutions can know and orient themselves in teaching and learning.

At the same time, the Department Office is requested to take the lead in developing a plan to determine the coordinates of all educational institutions in the city to prepare for enrollment of first-level classes for the 2026-2027 school year.
