In recent years, North Korea has focused on further promoting research and development of high technology for defense, especially artificial intelligence (AI), drones and electronic warfare technology.

According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), North Korean leader Kim Jong-un considers this a top priority task in the country's efforts to modernize its armed forces.

He has visited and worked many times at research facilities under the country's Unmanned Aircraft Technology Complex.

While directing the defense scientific research projects of the above-mentioned Complex and the electronic warfare research group in late March, leader Kim Jong-un emphasized that the development of drones and AI should be given top priority in the process of modernizing the armed forces, noting that these are important technologies that are decisive in the defense modernization effort.

Besides, leader Kim Jong-un also emphasized the importance of promoting a long-term and synchronized national program to take the lead in the race to develop smart drones, in line with modern combat trends, to enhance the country's military capabilities.

The North Korean leader also highly appreciated the role of the young generation in the country's defense scientific research units, considering them the core force for the modernization of North Korea's defense sector./.
