Proud to hold U23 Vietnam to a draw

"I am very proud of the players. Before the match, I told the players to show fighting spirit. They played very hard. I am happy about that," said coach Mohamad Nazri after the match where U23 Vietnam tied U23 Singapore 2-2.

With the qualification for the 2024 AFC U23 Championship finals certain, Vietnam U23 used a reserve team in this match. The home team took the lead twice, but moments of carelessness caused coach Philippe Troussier's players to concede.

"U23 Vietnam is stronger and this is their home ground. We fought and worked hard. U23 Singapore is proud of that," said Mr. Nazri.

"I know U23 Vietnam attacks strongly, especially on the two wings, they have two good wingers. When we have the ball, we counterattack quickly because the team also has fast strikers. We have a plan to play counterattacks, because U23 Vietnam controls the ball very well."

Striker Chua Vasileios - the player who scored the equalizer 2-2 for U23 Singapore said: "I am proud of my team. Although we did not advance, every member of the team played their best, there are no regrets. U23 Vietnam is one of the top teams in the region. We have shown that we can compete with such opponents."

Despite losing the victory to U23 Singapore, U23 Vietnam still tops Group C of the U23 Asian qualifiers. Coach Troussier and his team have 7 points, 1 point more than U23 Yemen. U23 Singapore ranks third after 2 draws and 1 loss. The team from the Lion Island did not qualify for the 2024 U23 Asian qualifiers.
