Kien Trung Palace, along with Thai Hoa Palace, Can Chanh Palace, Can Thanh Palace, and Khon Thai Palace... are important relics located on the sacred axis of the Forbidden City under the Nguyen Dynasty. This project began construction in 1921 and was completed in 1923, under the reign of King Khai Dinh.

During the reign of King Bao Dai, in 1932, the king renovated the interior of the palace, installing many Western amenities. Kien Trung Palace is an important and typical construction, marking a unique and distinctive period that added to the Hue royal architecture.

According to historical documents, after the success of the August Revolution, on August 29, 1945, Kien Trung Palace became a witness to the event where King Bao Dai had his first contact with the Provisional Government Delegation to officially discuss his abdication, handing over the power to run the country to the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.

After many years of research, in February 2019, the Hue Monuments Conservation Center and specialized agencies started the project to renovate, embellish and restore Kien Trung Palace. The total investment for the project is nearly 124 billion VND.
