Admitting to be the weakest, Dien Bien football team still won big in the opening match of the Workers' Tournament.

Dien Bien Trade Union team caused a big surprise when they beat Hung Yen 4-0 in the opening match of Group B of the 2025 Vietnam Workers and Civil Servants Football Tournament.

In the first match of Group B of the 2025 Vietnam Workers' and Civil Servants' Football Championship qualifying round taking place at 7:30 a.m. on October 3, the Dien Bien Trade Union team faced a higher-rated representative, the Hung Yen Trade Union.

That is because before participating in the tournament, Dien Bien Trade Union encountered many difficulties. They came from the farthest place from Hanoi among the teams in the Northern region and admitted that they were the weakest in the tournament in their first participation.

However, when the opening whistle blew, Dien Bien Trade Union created the shock of the tournament. They scored 4 beautiful goals to win against Hung Yen Trade Union. The goals were scored by players Tran Duc Viet, Lu Van Hung, Lo Van Tam and Bui Xuan Truong.

Among them, Lu Van Hung and Lo Van Tam are ethnic minority union members. Lo Van Tam is a worker at Dien Bien water plant, working and studying Law at the Open University.

In the Dien Bien Trade Union team, Lo Van Tam is the youngest player on the team (born in 2003). His performance in the opening match showed that Tam is the "soul" of the team's playing style. He plays as a shuttle midfielder, constantly attacking and defending, showing a mature style in each pass.

3 out of 4 goals of Dien Bien all came from the movements of Lo Van Tam. The remaining goal was directly scored by this worker player.

Speaking to Tuoi Tre after the match, head coach Nguyen Cong Hoan of Dien Bien Trade Union confided: "I was really surprised with this victory. Maybe because it was only the first round, the teams were not able to show their full strength.

However, by taking advantage of better opportunities, we won. I consider the strength balance between the teams in this qualifying round to be even."

On the same afternoon, Dien Bien Trade Union will play the second round of Group B of the 2025 Vietnam Workers and Civil Servants Football Tournament. Their opponent is Hanoi Trade Union, the team that won 3-0 against the guest team VP Bank 3-0 in the opening match.

Dien Bien's team of workers and ethnic players are very strong.

Van Tam is an ethnic minority, working as a worker at a water plant and studying law at university.

Player Bui Xuan Truong scored a masterpiece with a "falling yellow leaf" header to help seal a 4-0 victory for Dien Bien Trade Union.

The 2025 Vietnam Workers and Civil Servants Football Tournament is jointly organized by Tuoi Tre Newspaper, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, and the Vietnam Football Federation. This is the third consecutive year the tournament has taken place.
