Self-induced 'eyebrow removal', unexpectedly allergic reaction, had to go to hospital for treatment

Following her mother's advice, M. decided to remove the hair between her eyebrows. At first, M. used a razor, but after a few days, the hair grew back thicker and harder. Then, M.'s mother bought hair removal cream for her, but after 30 minutes of use, M. had an allergic reaction, her skin was itchy and swollen. M.'s mother took her to the hospital for a check-up.

On January 31, specialist Dr. Phan Son Long (Department of Dermatology - Cosmetic Dermatology, Tam Anh General Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City) said that M. was allergic to hair removal cream. If not treated promptly, the inflammation and infection can leave ugly scars. M. was prescribed anti-allergy medication and anti-itch ointment. After a few hours, M.'s skin condition reduced swelling and itching. Dr. Long also emphasized that thin and sensitive facial skin is easily irritated by chemicals in hair removal cream, especially when used near the eye area. Using hair removal cream only cleans the outer hair, but the hair follicles underneath continue to grow in their natural cycle.

Because M.’s eyebrows were quite long and thick, her mother took M. to see Dr. Long for laser hair removal treatment, a safe method that leaves no scars. M. needed to undergo 4 treatments, each 2 to 4 weeks apart.

After protecting his eyes with specialized glasses, the mole was treated with laser and was no longer black. After 5 days, the new skin area recovered almost completely like normal skin.

According to Dr. Long, during the Tet holiday and the beginning of the new year, the need for physiognomy and appearance changes increases, not only among young people but also among middle-aged people. However, self-intervention in appearance such as mole removal or hair removal can cause serious complications. Although there is no scientific evidence to prove that changing appearance can improve fate, increasing self-confidence through improving appearance can help people work more effectively in work and life.
