According to FIFA's announcement, the ranking of the Vietnamese futsal team has increased sharply on the rankings, from 31st to 26th in the world with 1,171.02 points.

Notably, the Vietnamese futsal team received an additional 27.81 points, the 4th highest after Sweden (ranked 74; 34.12 points), Germany (ranked 47; 31.69 points) and Moldova (ranked 66 in the world; 30.27 points).

This impressive number of points was thanks to a series of successful friendly matches in Ho Chi Minh City in April. Specifically, the Vietnamese futsal team beat Kazakhstan (ranked 7th in the world at that time and now 8th) 4-1 and drew 2-2; defeated Saudi Arabia (ranked 50th at that time and now 48th) in both matches with scores of 2-1 and 3-2.

In Southeast Asia, Thailand is still leading with 11th place in the world, followed by Indonesia with 23rd place in the world. But the score gap between Indonesia and Vietnam is only 18.44 points.

If they accumulate good points, the Vietnamese futsal team can surpass Indonesia in the next rankings, announced by FIFA on December 12, 2025.

The Vietnam futsal team with 20 players is currently practicing at Thai Son Nam gymnasium and will have a training trip in Kuwait from September 9 to 14.

After the training trip, coach Diego Giustozzi and his team will move to China to enter the 2026 Asian futsal qualifiers.

According to the draw results, the Vietnamese futsal team is in group E and will meet Hong Kong (September 20), China (September 22) and Lebanon (September 24).

In the FIFA women's rankings, the Vietnamese women's futsal team is still ranked 11th in the world, just behind Thailand (ranked 4th) in Southeast Asia.

The 2026 Asian futsal qualifiers have 31 participating teams, divided into 8 groups, including 7 groups of 4 teams and 1 group of 3 teams.

The teams will compete in a round-robin format at the host country's venue. The eight group winners and seven best runners-up will advance to the finals, joining hosts Indonesia.
