The Vietnam U18 team met the Korean U18 team in the final match of the Seoul Cup 2023 friendly tournament. Before that, coach Hoang Anh Tuan and his team suffered defeats against Morocco U18 and Ukraine U18.
U18 Vietnam entered the match with enthusiasm. The players in white shirts did not hesitate to play close to the opponent despite being physically weaker. The home team had many difficulties in developing the ball because of this way of playing of coach Hoang Anh Tuan's players.
U18 Vietnam almost opened the scoring with a close pass from Cong Phuong in the first half. The Viettel midfielder intercepted the Korean defender's pass to the goalkeeper, but he did not have enough strength to control the ball and finish.
U18 Vietnam could not create a surprise against Korea.
The first half ended in a 0-0 draw. In the second half, U18 Korea pushed the pace and played faster. U18 Vietnam players had to constantly chase the ball because of the home team's ability to rotate and coordinate smoothly.
U18 Vietnam conceded a goal in a coordinated situation at the bottom of the home team. In the 54th minute, a Korean player threw the ball into the penalty area. The ball passed through the feet of 2 players in red shirts before being passed back inside for a shot.
More than 10 minutes later, U18 Vietnam received the second goal from a comfortable shot on the right wing by the home player.
Vietnam U18 suffered a 0-2 defeat, ending their three-match losing streak. South Korea U18 won the championship with seven points. Ukraine U18 finished second with six points and Morocco U18 finished third with four points.
