Australia provides $240,000 in equipment aid to Vietnam's peacekeeping force

On August 12, at the headquarters of the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department (Hanoi), the Ministry of National Defense held a handover ceremony of supplies and equipment provided by the Australian Government to the Vietnam Peacekeeping Force. The handover ceremony took place within the framework of the 8th Vietnam-Australia Bilateral Defense Policy Dialogue.

Delegates from the two countries ' Defense Ministries cut the ribbon to receive the handover of equipment to the Vietnamese Peacekeeping Force.

Major General Pham Manh Thang, Director of the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department, said that after the handover, the equipment will be put into use and serve the training of officers and staff of the Engineering Team, Level 2 Field Hospital as well as other training teams of the unit, contributing to improving the capacity of the Vietnam Peacekeeping force in general.

The Director of the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations affirmed that the coordination between Vietnam and Australia in the above package of materials and equipment donations is another testament to the effective cooperation between the two countries' Defense Ministries in the field of United Nations (UN) peacekeeping operations .

"The funding package helps the Vietnamese peacekeeping force have more conditions to improve the quality of training and education, prepare better forces, meet the increasing demands of the United Nations for humanitarian goals at peacekeeping missions, with people in Africa who are still facing difficulties, to demonstrate the responsibility of Vietnam and Australia in carrying out this noble mission," Major General Pham Manh Thang emphasized.

Meanwhile, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, Deputy Minister of National Defense, emphasized that over the past years, the defense relationship in general and in the field of UN peacekeeping in particular between Vietnam and Australia has had many positive and effective developments, contributing to improving the capacity of Vietnam's peacekeeping force.

Australia is also the only country to date with which Vietnam has signed a GNHB partnership agreement at the Government level in March 2024.

"I hope that the Australian Ministry of Defense will continue to provide more practical support to Vietnam's peacekeeping forces and that the two sides will have more specific and realistic cooperation activities, such as increasing support for training and education; supporting equipment for capacity-building training; promoting the women's agenda... In particular, studying the establishment of a mechanism to co-organize tabletop exercises and field exercises on UN peacekeeping in rotation in each country," said Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien.
