This afternoon, Vice Admiral Tran Thanh Nghiem - member of the Party Central Committee, Commander of the Vietnam Navy - received Colonel Sergey Vladimirovich Belosludtsev for a courtesy visit on the occasion of taking up the post of Defense Attaché of the Russian Federation in Vietnam.

Attending the reception were the head of the Logistics and Technical Department and a number of agencies of the Navy Command.

At the reception, Vice Admiral Tran Thanh Nghiem welcomed the appointment of Colonel Sergey Vladimirovich Belosludtsev, and expressed his belief that in his new position, the Colonel will be an important bridge to effectively implement major orientations and defense cooperation contents between the two countries in the coming time.

Vice Admiral Tran Thanh Nghiem emphasized that Vietnam and the Russian Federation have a long-standing traditional friendship and are comprehensive strategic partners. With a history of 75 years, defense cooperation has always been respected, preserved and given special attention by the leaders and people of the two countries.

Along with the general development of Vietnam - Russia relations, defense cooperation in general and naval cooperation in particular have been continuously strengthened, becoming an important pillar. Since 2012, the two sides have established the Vietnam - Russia Joint Working Group mechanism on naval cooperation, which is currently showing positive results. Last September, the Vietnam Navy welcomed the Russian Navy Deputy Commander-in-Chief and the Smolny training ship to visit Cam Ranh International Port, vividly demonstrating the good cooperative relationship between the two navies.

The Commander of the Vietnam Navy hopes that in the coming time, Colonel Sergey Vladimirovich Belosludtsev will actively support to promote the cooperation between the Vietnam Navy and Russia to be in-depth and effective, worthy of being a bright spot in bilateral defense cooperation. The two sides will focus on the fields of training, education, port visits, as well as exchange on regional and international issues of mutual concern.

Colonel Sergey Vladimirovich Belosludtsev expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome of the Commander of the Vietnam Navy, affirming that he will continue to promote the achievements of his predecessors and closely coordinate with the authorities of both sides to promote the defense relationship in general and naval cooperation in particular to develop further.

Russia wishes to cooperate with Vietnam in naval affairs.

Previously, on September 15, General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense, held talks with Assistant to the President, Chairman of the Russian Federation Maritime Council Nikolai Patrushev, who was visiting Vietnam.

General Phan Van Giang highly appreciated the position of the Russian Federation as a maritime power with strong naval capabilities, a widespread network of strategic seaports, advanced shipbuilding technology and a modern model of sea management and exploitation.

The two sides emphasized that naval cooperation, training and marine research are important pillars in the Vietnam-Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
