At the end of July, a 25-year-old female patient, often tired, restless, and had digestive disorders, went to the doctor and the test results showed tapeworm segments and tapeworm eggs. The doctor diagnosed the patient with beef tapeworm infection and prescribed medication to treat adult tapeworms. After taking the medication, the patient passed out a 6-meter-long tapeworm. The girl said she had a habit of eating rare beef pho and beef hotpot, occasionally had digestive disorders, and found foreign objects in her stool.

Or like an 8-year-old patient in Son La , who came to the hospital due to fatigue and loss of appetite. After admission, the doctors took a medical history and did not record any abnormalities. However, through the necessary tests, the doctor diagnosed the patient with tapeworm infection and performed a drug treatment to remove the tapeworm. As a result, the patient expelled a nearly 1.5 meter long tapeworm from his body.

Ms. LCĐ (25 years old, living in Binh Thanh district, Ho Chi Minh City) said that many people in her family like to eat raw food. Especially dishes such as raw shrimp with fish sauce, salmon, oyster sashimi...

"Even though I know raw food can be bad, when I eat it, I think if I just squeeze a lot of lemon, dip it in a lot of mustard, and choose fresh seafood, it should be fine," Ms. D. shared.

Similarly, Ms. NTO (59 years old, living in Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City) said that she often eats rare dishes such as rare pho, rare beef as a snack or when she feels tired and bored with eating rice. If cooked, the meat will be tough and will not retain the characteristic sweet flavor of the dish. Therefore, she also often squeezes lemon into the meat to disinfect it.

Or like TBH (28 years old, in Tan Binh district, Ho Chi Minh City) said she has no interest in eating raw meat, sushi, sashimi or rare meat, but she loves eating raw vegetables. She often uses water spinach, bean sprouts, lettuce and herbs to wrap with pork and rice paper. "However, what I am concerned about is that the quality of vegetables on the market is not guaranteed, so even if washed, there may still be a lot of chemical residue, bacteria, parasites stuck in the water spinach tube, spleen... However, because I love dishes wrapped with raw vegetables, I often soak the vegetables in salt to wash and eat," said Ms. H.

Specialist Doctor Dinh Tran Ngoc Mai (Department of Nutrition - Dietetics, University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City) said that raw foods such as raw meat, especially raw seafood such as fish salads, are always attractive and popular because of their freshness and high nutritional value. However, these raw foods are easily contaminated with bacteria, viruses, and parasites such as worms and flukes if not properly cleaned and processed.

"Squeezing lemon and adding mustard only reduces the fishy smell and increases the deliciousness of the food, but cannot kill the above microorganisms. To eliminate harmful agents in food, it must be processed at high temperatures for the right amount of time," Dr. Mai shared.

Dr. Mai shared that to limit the risk of infection with parasites and disease-causing bacteria, we should choose quality food sources, ensure hygiene and have appropriate processing methods.
