Ofir Gendelman, the Arabic spokesman for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, posted a video of the destruction on social media.

According to RT, the video shows the building engulfed in thick smoke and dust and heavily damaged after the explosion. In the distance, soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) cheered.

“Today, our ground forces blew up the headquarters of the Hamas legislative council in the Gaza Strip, as part of the overthrow of the regime,” Mr. Gendelman wrote.

The Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) building is located on Omar al-Mukhtar Street in downtown Gaza City. According to Israeli news agency i24NEWS, on November 13, soldiers from the IDF Golani Brigade took photos inside the building with the Israeli flag, “after conquering the area.”

PLC has been largely inactive since 2007, when Hamas took power in Gaza and split from the Fatah movement in the West Bank.

Israel launched a full-scale war against Hamas last month, after the group raided villages and outposts in Israel near Gaza, killing about 1,200 people.

In addition to the complete blockade, Israeli artillery and aircraft have been bombarding Gaza for more than a month. IDF ground forces also entered the strip on November 1.

More than 11,200 people have been killed in Gaza since the conflict began, while some 2,700 others are reported missing, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry in Ramallah.
