(QNgTV)- Every year, Vietnam has more than 8 million tons of usable food thrown away, causing an economic loss of about 3.9 billion USD/year.

The campaign aims to reduce food waste and promote global food security.

On the occasion of World Food Loss and Waste Prevention Day, the Vietnam Food Bank Network in collaboration with the Global Food Bank, Ho Chi Minh City Culinary Association, Green Journey Social Enterprise, and the Vietnam Farmers Network launched the campaign "Food for Change 2025" and announced the food waste recycling initiative - Green Hero.

The campaign "Food for change 2025" was deployed simultaneously in more than 50 countries, bringing together hundreds of initiatives, aiming to reduce food waste and promote global food security.

Along with that, the Green Hero food waste recycling initiative is the key solution of this year's campaign. The initiative focuses on processing food waste at the source, transforming it into useful products such as compost, soil nutrients or animal feed.

During the pilot phase, Green Hero will be deployed in major wholesale markets, schools, hotels, restaurants and student dormitories. The on-site waste treatment model helps reduce landfill load and at the same time creates a source of fertilizer for green agriculture .
