Following the working visit to New Zealand, on September 23 and 24, the delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam led by Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission, attended the official welcoming ceremony according to Maori tradition; had meetings and exchanges with Minister of Higher Education Shane Reti and Minister of Climate Change, Energy and Local Government Simon Watts; had exchanges with the leadership of Victoria University of Wellington and the leadership of Auckland University of Technology.
Minister of Higher Education Shane Reti highly appreciated the educational and training cooperation between the two countries; at the same time, he said that since the beginning of this year, the Government of Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has decided to increase the number of scholarships for Vietnamese students to study at New Zealand universities to support Vietnam in training human resources and achieving the goal of becoming a high-income developed country by 2045.
Meanwhile, Minister for Climate Change, Energy and Local Government Simon Watts said that Vietnam and New Zealand are both facing enormous challenges as well as complex impacts from climate change and ensuring energy security.
The New Zealand Government has developed a National Climate Change Response Programme with a variety of comprehensive measures to exploit new and clean energy sources.
Appreciating Vietnam's policies, strategies and achievements in the fields of climate change response, energy security and food security, Minister Simon Watts expressed his hope that the two sides would strengthen cooperation, share information and experience in building mechanisms, applying science and technology, training officials and realizing policies and strategies to bring about concrete results.
At meetings and working sessions with the Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission Nguyen Trong Nghia, the leadership of Victoria University of Wellington and Auckland University of Technology said that over the years, the two universities have trained and granted scholarships to thousands of Vietnamese students and postgraduates to study and research in many fields such as business administration, education, basic sciences, information technology and high technology, medicine, etc.

The two schools' leaders expressed their hope that in the coming time, they will train more Vietnamese students, especially in the fields of science, engineering, management, etc., contributing to meeting the requirements of developing high-quality human resources in Vietnam in the new period.
Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia thanked the Government, Parliament and people of New Zealand for their valuable support and assistance to Vietnam in many fields over the past 50 years, especially in staff training and socio-economic development projects.
Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia suggested that the two sides continue to promote the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, implement high-level agreements; promptly complete the Action Program for the 2025-2030 period to implement the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, in which it is necessary to strengthen political relations through exchanges of high-level delegations and at all levels, both on the Party, State and Government channels, and tighten people-to-people exchanges as well as between localities and businesses of the two countries.
Appreciating the quality, reputation and educational environment of New Zealand, Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia emphasized that educational and training cooperation is an important pillar in the relationship between the two countries; suggested that universities of both sides coordinate to research and develop long-term, sustainable and practical cooperation plans; diversify forms of cooperation such as student and lecturer exchanges, joint training, joint research programs, focusing on high-tech industries, artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, biotechnology, medicine, foreign languages, and training of high-quality human resources.
During his working visit to New Zealand, Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission Nguyen Trong Nghia also visited and met with officials of the Vietnamese Embassy in Wellington and representatives of the Vietnamese community in this Oceanian country.
Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia informed about the meaning and importance of the Resolutions of the Communist Party of Vietnam in science and technology development, international integration, law making and enforcement, private economic development, education and training, and healthcare to bring our country into a new era of development.
Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia asked the officials and Party members of the Embassy to promote their achievements, increase their initiative and responsibility in coordinating with agencies to promote the Vietnam-New Zealand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to develop more strongly and comprehensively.
Recognizing and praising the practical activities and patriotic orientation of Vietnamese associations in New Zealand, comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia called on the Vietnamese community in New Zealand to promote noble values, always unite and support each other to become a "bridge of friendship" and an important resource, contributing to the development of the relationship between the two countries./.
