Loc An commune officials visited families of policy beneficiaries and people with revolutionary contributions.

Hidden in a small hamlet in An Lai village, in the July sun, from the street, we heard laughter coming from Mr. Pham Chieu's house, who were visitors to the homeowner. Mrs. Huynh Thi Thia, Mr. Pham Chieu's wife, shared: "Thanks to the local authorities, my family has a sturdy house to protect us from the sun and rain, and to safely avoid storms."

Mr. Chieu is the son of martyr Pham Chi. His family has only one child who is studying at university. The family's situation is difficult as Mr. Chieu is paralyzed in both legs, the economic burden falls on his wife's shoulders. Mrs. Thia said: "Although it is difficult, the local government's concern warms our hearts. Whenever there is any resource, the local government always cares and helps, giving priority to my family. Currently, there are also benefactors who help my children go to school with an additional 500,000 VND per month."

In Ms. Thia’s memory, amidst the worries of life is the warmth of community affection. Pointing to the board hanging on the wall, she emotionally told about the house built with support from the Vietnamese Government and GCF-UNDP through a project to support coastal communities in responding to climate change. Not only was the State and the project supported by 80 million VND, but local people also contributed their labor and money to complete the house in 2024.

Loc An commune currently has 574 people with meritorious services and relatives of families with meritorious services to the revolution.

Not only fully implementing the policies for people with meritorious services according to the State's regulations, Loc An commune also organizes many meaningful activities such as: Visiting typical policy families in the localities; launching the movement to support, contribute, and build the Gratitude Fund; organizing activities of offering incense and lighting candles to pay tribute to heroic martyrs at martyr cemeteries. In addition, the locality coordinates with units such as the Department of Health and the Hue City Cardiovascular Association to organize medical examinations, treatment, and provide free medicine for policy beneficiaries.

Notably, the locality has also promoted the socialization of gratitude work. From 2020 to now, more than 30 houses in the area have been supported to repair and rebuild, with support levels up to 80 million VND/house. Thanks to that, the locality has completed the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses, giving priority to meritorious households with many different resources.

Mr. Truong Cong Hieu (born in 1963) - a veteran living in Nam Pho Ha village shared: "Before, my house was seriously degraded, thanks to the support of the government and the people, now I have a decent house. The local authorities care in many ways, even coming to support me on rainy and flood days to take me to a safe place."

Mr. Truong Thanh Tin, Deputy Head of the Department of Culture and Society of Loc An commune, shared, "Repaying gratitude" is a responsibility and also a command from the heart. It is difficult to list all the things that have been done, but Loc An always pays special attention to people with meritorious services, policy families, especially the lives of those in lonely and difficult circumstances. The care from sharing food and drinks to asking questions and encouraging words may not have much value but all warm the hearts of people with meritorious services and their relatives.

Leaving Loc An, we still remember the words shared by Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee Tran Huy Cuong: "Loc An is a land rich in revolutionary tradition, and also a place where the work of gratitude is always carried out with all respect and gratitude. We - the successors will continue that mission with all our hearts."
