Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of Vinh Long Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Quynh Thien said that Vinh Long province currently has a coastline of more than 130 km, stretching from the coastal region to Binh Dai. Vinh Long has great potential for developing coastal and offshore wind power, with a sea area of about 15,000 km2.
The sea area from Duyen Hai to Ba Tri has been assessed by international consulting organizations to have an average wind speed of 7 - 8 m/s, suitable for large-capacity wind power. Currently, the potential of the entire Vinh Long province is planned to have about 45 renewable energy projects onshore, coastal and offshore, with a total capacity of about 3,855 MW, which are being promoted by the province to call for investment.
Over the years, Vietnam's energy industry has been growing steadily, aiming to ensure national energy security and green, sustainable development. In that journey, Vinh Long province, with its open space, abundant resources and synchronous energy infrastructure, is ready to play an important role in the national renewable energy map. The simultaneous commencement of 4 wind power plants demonstrates the province's determination to exploit the potential of coastal wind, while concretizing the policy of developing renewable energy according to the National Energy Development Strategy to 2030, vision 2050 of Vinh Long province.
Currently, Vinh Long province has a total commercial operating power capacity of 5,414 MW, including: 4 thermal power plants with a total capacity of 4,498 MW, 13 wind power plants with a total capacity of 572.1 MW, 02 concentrated solar power plants with a capacity of 189 MW and rooftop solar power systems with a total capacity of 154.9 MW. Every year, Vinh Long province contributes about 30 billion kWh to the national grid, creating a value equivalent to about 25,000 billion VND; of which, renewable energy sources account for about 5,000 billion VND.
The four wind power projects, when completed and put into operation, will continue to contribute to providing a stable power source of about 718 million kWh per year, meeting the increasing energy demand of the country and the region, ensuring national energy security, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and contributing to environmental protection. Along with that, these projects attract and create jobs for about 400 workers in the construction phase and about 100 workers in the operation phase, contributing to shifting the labor structure, increasing the provincial budget revenue by about 115 billion VND/year...
On behalf of the investor, Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai Thanh, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of REE Refrigeration Electrical Engineering Joint Stock Company, said that the 4 wind power plant projects: V1-3 phase 2 with a capacity of 48 MW, total investment capital of about 2,257 billion VND; V1-5 and V1-6 wind power plants phase 2 with a capacity of 80 MW, investment capital of 3,864 billion VND; Dong Hai 3 wind power plant with a capacity of 48 MW, investment capital of 2,771 billion VND; V1-2 wind power plant with an expansion capacity of 48 MW, with an investment capital of more than 2,392 billion VND. These wind power plants are expected to be energized and put into commercial operation in the fourth quarter of 2026.
The investor and the construction unit commit to concentrate all resources to implement the construction; strictly comply with the provisions of the law on construction, environment and labor safety. The investor hopes that the Provincial People's Committee, functional units and local authorities will continue to pay attention, accompany and provide the highest support to the investors in the process of implementing the project to ensure the progress according to the approved policy.
