Tan Cuong tea area (Thai Nguyen city) is known as the tea capital of Thai Nguyen. In addition to the image of green tea hills, one after another forming an upside-down bowl shape, this place is also famous for its delicious tea products. Among them, the ancient midland tea variety is the type that has created the brand for the land of the First Famous Tea.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Van, Hong Thai 2 hamlet, Tan Cuong commune (Thai Nguyen city) shared that although the locality grows tea varieties that make up the Thai Nguyen tea brand, the area of ​​ancient midland tea gardens here is not much now.

"My family is one of the few households that still preserves the ancient tea garden, now only about 2 hectares left. The trees in the tea garden are nearly 60 - 70 years old, some are even 100 years old. This is a very precious tea tree that our grandparents left behind, so we must preserve it at all costs," said Ms. Van.

There is very little ancient midland tea left, most people have switched to branch tea and hybrid tea for high productivity.

Ancient midland tea has many different characteristics from current hybrid teas such as round leaves, thick petals, and good resistance to pests and diseases.

The tea roots are stained with time, many of which are older than humans.

Thanks to the soil and climate, the ancient midland tea in Tan Cuong commune has a unique aroma and flavor. Each product made from ancient tea has a price ranging from 300,000 VND to 4,000,000 VND per kilogram.

When brewed, ancient midland tea will have a golden green color, the aroma of young rice, mild astringency and a long sweet aftertaste.

Talking to Lao Dong, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Linh - Vice Chairman of Tan Cuong Commune People's Committee said that currently, the whole commune has a total of 350 hectares of tea plantation, of which the ancient midland tea area accounts for more than 100 hectares (30%).

"Ancient midland tea is the product that makes up the Thai Nguyen tea brand with its delicious, rich flavor and sweet aftertaste. This is a unique and precious product that farmers need to preserve and develop comprehensively and sustainably to help the Thai Nguyen tea brand reach far and wide," informed the local leader.
