Windows 11 is about to allow removing pre-installed applications

According to Digital Trends , Microsoft is testing the ability to allow users to remove pre-installed applications from the Windows 11 operating system, to make room for third-party applications and new updates of some old programs.

Specifically, Microsoft recently started rolling out Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 23585, which allows users to uninstall a series of built-in apps from Windows 10 and Windows 11. The company revealed in the Windows Insider Blog that the update will allow uninstalling apps like Camera, Cortana, Photos, People, and the Remote Desktop app (MSTSC).

Currently, this capability is exclusive to Windows 11 Insiders, who are users who accept to test software before it is released to the public, so Microsoft may still consider whether to roll out the new capability to future updates.

Earlier in August, Windows Central noted that Cortana was discontinued on Windows, and would likely be removed from the system in a future update. Microsoft now plans to offer its AI assistant Copilot to replace Cortana.

It can be seen that the company's recent moves suggest that providing the ability to manually uninstall inactive features instead of having to wait for another update to remove them is something that should be implemented.
