On October 1, Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee coordinated with Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics to organize the workshop "Ocean Future 2025: Smart Technology and Sustainable Coastal Life".
At the workshop, Associate Professor Dr. Trinh Tu Anh - Director of the Institute of Smart Cities and Management (ISCM) - presented about the national research center on ocean technology in Khanh Hoa .
Completing to submit to the Central Government
According to Ms. Tu Anh, the establishment of the Ocean Technology Research Center is because Khanh Hoa has an important strategic position with the longest coastline in Vietnam (385km), two bays Van Phong and Cam Ranh, and a rich system of coral reefs and mangrove forests.
"Currently, the locality is also aiming to develop ocean technology as a spearhead industry, in parallel with the application of high technology in aquaculture, exploitation and protection of marine resources," said Ms. Tu Anh.
According to her, currently ocean resources that can be researched and exploited include the following areas: biological resources, materials, energy, support for transportation activities, ports, tourism , regeneration, research activities, submarine cables, pipelines, desalination, solid waste treatment, marine waste and areas related to life support and resource circulation.

In addition, the center will prioritize research on seven groups of ocean technologies including robots, ocean monitoring technology, data management and analysis, ocean modeling, renewable energy technology, ocean biotechnology and blue ocean conservation.
Currently, the project to establish the Ocean Technology Research Center is being reviewed and completed by the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province to submit to the Central Government for approval in the coming time.

At the workshop, Mr. Park Sangwoo - former Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of Korea - presented proposals on the development of smart seaports in Vietnam in the coming time.
According to Mr. Park Sangwoo, experience from Busan port (Korea) shows that ports are core assets that strengthen the national economy and industrial development.
Previously, Busan Port was established in 1978. After applying the automatic equipment model and operating system, it developed into a global logistics center, ranking 7th in the world in terms of container throughput and 2nd in terms of transshipment volume.
This also comes from Busan Port using a fully automated container terminal, integrating automation technologies into the operating system.
This laid the foundation for South Korea’s port operations, which are now moving beyond basic automation to incorporate AI-driven operations, digital twin technology, and sustainable low-carbon energy solutions.
Through that, Mr. Park Sangwoo proposed cooperation between Korea and Vietnam smart ports, when in Vietnam, major seaports are rapidly expanding port infrastructure, equipment and digital operating systems, in line with the trajectory that Korea has taken.
