Watch Ha Tinh people harvest earthworms, earning millions every night

These days, people in Trung Luong ward (Hong Linh town) are in the season of exploiting earthworms, with each person being able to earn millions of dong each night from this mollusk.

These days, in 35 hectares of rice fields outside La Giang dike in Trung Luong ward (Hong Linh town), the first harvest of the season's blood worms has begun.

Before harvesting the worms, people open the sluices to let the river tide flow into their fields, then block the sluices and after a few hours the worms will come up.

Mr. Kieu Dinh Thien's family in Phuc Son residential group, Trung Luong ward (Hong Linh town) has 7 sao of rice fields outside La Giang dike participating in the organic rice production model exploiting natural rươi. In recent days, every night, Mr. Thien and his wife turn on the lights, spread nets on the tidal drainage from the fields, prepare buckets and basins, and wait for the rươi to float with the water to harvest.

Mr. Thien excitedly shared: In the first 3 days of the season, my family harvested 50kg. As soon as the rươi was harvested, traders bought it, with the price of about 350-400 thousand VND/kg, my family earned 17 million VND.

At this time, Mr. Le Dinh Khanh (TPD Phuc Son) is also rushing to harvest the first batches of earthworms of the year on his family's 4 sao of rice fields. Mr. Khanh said: "To have a successful earthworm crop, along with favorable natural factors, applying technology to production, investing in soil improvement, creating a good environment for earthworms to grow and develop are very important factors. The entire earthworm harvesting field area does not use chemical fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides...

Mr. Nguyen Cao Hoang - Chairman of the Trung Luong Ward Farmers' Association said: "It is the beginning of the rươi season, but the weather is not favorable due to heavy rain, so the exploitation output is not high. It is estimated that in the last 3 days, people have exploited more than 300kg of rươi, earning more than 100 million VND". This year, out of nearly 35 hectares of rice fields that have begun to harvest rươi, there are 9 hectares with 34 households participating in the organic rice production model on fields exploited from natural rươi. The model is implemented by the Center for Experimental High-Tech Agricultural Biology under the Vietnam Agricultural Genetics Institute in coordination with the Department of Science and Technology of Ha Tinh.

The town will direct the strengthening of propaganda and guidance for people to apply the organic rice production model on natural fields of earthworms; apply processes and strictly comply with regulations to ensure environmental hygiene in earthworm fields to create a favorable environment for earthworms to grow better and produce higher yields.
