Vietnamese Circus Wins Big at IDOL World Circus Festival

The 8th World Circus Festival “IDOL” took place from July 18 to 22 at the Great Moscow State Circus, the largest circus in Moscow, bringing together the participation of more than 200 talented circus artists from 17 countries: Russia, Kazakhstan, Guatemala, Peru, Philippines, China, Bulgaria, Mongolia, Vietnam, Poland, USA, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany...

The World Circus Festival “IDOL” has been held continuously from 2013 to 2019. And after 5 years of being affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Festival will be held again in 2024. The Organizing Committee has carefully selected from clips and videos sent by famous circus troupes around the world to choose the 24 most outstanding performances to participate in the Festival.

In the end, the Organizing Committee awarded 1 Grand Fix, 3 Gold, 3 Silver and 4 Bronze prizes to the participating teams. Among them, the "4-woman hat swing" performance of the Vietnam Circus Federation was honored to win the Silver Medal. This is the first medal of Vietnam at the largest international circus festival in the Russian Federation.

"Four Women's Conical Hat Swing" is directed by People's Artist Tong Toan Thang, Director of the Vietnam Circus Federation, with technical performance by artist Duc Tai, performed by four female artists: Chu Hong Thuy, Pham Thi Huong, Luu Thi Huong, and Lo Ngoc Thuy.

Vietnam's performance was highly appreciated for performing difficult movements with skillful techniques.

People's Artist Tong Toan Thang said that Vietnam's performance was highly appreciated by international friends because it had difficult movements, skillful techniques, requiring the actors to constantly change and have extremely good coordination. In particular, the artists performed swinging movements from high places without needing a safety rope. The way the performance was staged highlighted the colors of Vietnamese culture combined with violin music ...

At the 8th World Circus Festival “IDOL”, the Director of the Vietnam Circus Federation was invited to join the Festival’s Jury. This is also the first time that there is a Vietnamese representative on the list of the Festival’s Jury. In the role of judge, People’s Artist Tong Toan Thang shared that he also had similar assessments as the Jury when judging the excellent performances at the Festival.

Previously, People's Artist Tong Toan Thang had success with the performance "Du Son" staged for two female artists Chu Hong Thuy and Pham Thi Huong, and was awarded the "Golden Crown" at the International Circus Princess Festival held in the Russian Federation at the end of October 2022.
