This morning (August 21), Fluminense won 2-0 against America de Cali in Copa Sudamericana at Maracana Stadium. Notably, Fluminense goalkeeper Fabio created a great record after this match.

Accordingly, this is Fabio's 1,391st match in his football career. The 45-year-old goalkeeper has officially surpassed the legendary Peter Shilton's record of 1,390 matches (recorded in the Guinness Book of Records).
According to the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS), Fabio played 30 matches for União Bandeirante from 1997 to 2000. He then moved to Vasco da Gama and played 150 matches there from 2000 to 2004.
Between 2005 and 2021, Fabio played 976 matches for Cruzeiro. From 2021 to now, he has played 235 matches for Fluminense. It is worth mentioning that despite turning 45, this goalkeeper is still very flexible and is the number one choice in goal at Fluminense.
After Fabio and Peter Shilton, C. Ronaldo is third in the list of most appearances with 1,287 matches. If he plays until the age of 45, the Portuguese superstar can completely surpass Fabio to hold this record. In the top 5 players with the most appearances, fans also see the appearance of two names: Paul Bastock (1,284 matches) and Rogerio Ceni (1,226 matches).

Fabio has never played for the Brazilian national team. He has only represented the country at the U23 level. However, he has still had a great career with 27 titles, including the Copa Libertadores and the 2004 Copa America (although he did not play for the Brazilian national team). Recently, Fabio also reached the semi-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup with Fluminense.
Speaking after setting the great record, Fabio said: “I have to thank all the people who have always been by my side, my parents, my siblings, my friends and my wife. I always try to live as a good person. The most important thing is to be a good teammate. I believe that without God, nothing would be possible.”
