The movie "Cong Tu Bac Lieu " officially premiered on December 6, 2024. The two artists of the show "Anh trai say hi", Cong Duong and Song Luan, became rivals on the movie.
The producer released a clip of the movie "Cong Tu Bac Lieu" on October 15. In it, the first images of the character Bach Cong Tu (Tu Phat) played by Cong Duong received much attention from viewers.
Mr. Bach is one of two iconic figures of the Southern upper class in the early 20th century, famous for his unlimited lavish lifestyle, and is also the "rival" of Mr. Hac (played by Mr. Ba Hon - Song Luan). The two young masters created the couple Hac - Bach with famous anecdotes at that time.
The newly released clip introduces the image of Ba Hon driving a luxury car to Nam-Kin school, surrounded by the lights of the bustling Saigon city. He appeared in Nam-Kin in an arrogant mood, from his outfit to his demeanor, exuding the power, elegance but no less arrogant of a true playboy.
The interesting thing is that not only are there beautiful women waiting for him, but there is also the appearance of a special person: Mr. Bach Tu Phat.
The meeting between the Black Prince and the White Prince was not only a reunion of the two most famous figures in the Southern Six Provinces at that time, but also quickly led to an extremely lavish and strange competition that later generations still pass down.
Instead of using firewood or other common fuels, Mr. Ba Hon and Mr. Tu Phat decided to burn money to cook sweet soup, making all the witnesses gasp in amazement. This is a symbol of extreme luxury, showing off a rich lifestyle to the point of not caring about material values, only focusing on satisfying the joy and affirming the class of the two young masters. Besides cooking sweet soup, the clip also gradually reveals other luxurious pleasures of the young masters such as beauty pageants, boxing competitions...
Director Ly Minh Thang said that through the movie "Cong Tu Bac Lieu", he wanted to correct the common misconception of the audience about the image of the Black and White princes, that is, the Black prince always wears black clothes and the White prince always wears white clothes. In fact, black and white here refers to the skin tones of the two princes, so viewers can easily recognize the image of actor Song Luan in "Cong Tu Bac Lieu" as someone with dark skin, while Cong Duong appears with a pale and scholarly appearance.
Director Ly Minh Thang also shared that Song Luan and Cong Duong were the perfect choices for the roles of Black and White Princes, not only because of their suitable appearances but also because of their ability to portray the psychological depth of the two characters. Although famous for their dissolute and lavish lifestyles, they both had their own untold stories and always yearned to assert their position in the turbulent society of that time.
Another highlight of the film "Cong Tu Bac Lieu" is the return of Meritorious Artist Thanh Loc in the role of Mr. Hoi Dong Linh - father of Mr. Ba Hon. According to director Ly Minh Thang, with his intense love for the culture of old Saigon and with the life experience of someone who lived through that period, Meritorious Artist Thanh Loc not only brings to the film his top acting ability but also a deep understanding of the demeanor, behavior and lifestyle of the people of the South in the early 20th century.
