In his opening speech, Mr. Nguyen Van Dung - Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee said that with the theme "Sustainable Tourism - Creating the Future", the fair expects countries, territories, governments and businesses to develop sustainable tourism.
Mr. Dung said that we need to join hands to reduce emissions globally, protect natural resources, protect the living environment and cultural environment for today's and future generations.
According to Booking.com's Sustainable Travel Report 2023, globally, 80% of survey respondents said sustainable travel is increasingly important.
In Vietnam, 97% of Vietnamese tourists surveyed said they want to travel more sustainably in the next 12 months, 75% said they are willing to pay more for certified sustainable tourism options, and 83% expressed a desire to help leave the places they visit greener and cleaner after they leave.
With the theme “Sustainable Tourism - Creating the Future”, the tourism fair focused on discussing solutions and strategic visions for developing Vietnam tourism in general and city tourism in particular in a sustainable direction. That is, not only based on economic benefits but also in harmony with cultural, social and environmental values.
ITE HCMC 2024 is also a valuable opportunity for the city to learn from international experiences on motivational mechanisms and policies to develop the tourism industry during the period when the city is accelerating the implementation of Resolution 98.
In parallel with the above trade exhibition activities, the Department of Industry and Trade and the Department of Tourism also organized the 2024 International Exhibition of Gifts and Souvenirs of the City with 100 participating booths.
