According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, last night and this morning (September 24), in the Central and South Central regions, the Central Highlands and the South, there were showers and thunderstorms, with some heavy rain. The rainfall from 7:00 p.m. last night to 8:00 a.m. this morning was over 50mm in some places such as: Binh Tan (Quang Ngai) 74.2mm, Quoc Oai (Lam Dong) 65.4mm, La Nga ( Dong Nai ) 100.2mm,...

Weather forecast , today and tonight, in the Central and South Central regions, Central Highlands and the South, there will continue to be rain, moderate rain and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain with rainfall from 20-40mm, some places over 80mm.

Notably, from September 25-27, the Central, Central Highlands and Southern regions will have rain, some places will have very heavy rain. In particular, in the North and Central Central regions, rainfall will be 100-250mm/period, in some places over 300mm/period; in the South Central, Central Highlands and Southern regions, rainfall will be 100-150mm/period, in some places over 200mm/period.

Thunderstorms may produce tornadoes, lightning, and strong gusts of wind. Heavy rain may cause flooding in low-lying areas and flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas.

Regarding this rain, the Southern Hydrometeorological Station said that it is due to the low pressure trough over the South gradually becoming stronger. The Southwest monsoon over the South is also gradually becoming stronger. Rain usually concentrates in the evening.

The meteorological agency further assessed that, in the period from September 21 to October 20, the total rainfall in the Northern and North Central regions will generally be approximately below and in some places 20-30% lower than the average of many years in the same period. Meanwhile, other regions will have total rainfall approximately above and in some places 20-30% higher than the average of the same period. In particular, moderate and heavy rains are still likely to occur in the Central, Central Highlands and Southern regions.

Tropical depression may appear in the East Sea

In the 10am bulletin this morning, the meteorological agency said that the tropical convergence zone connecting with the low pressure area caused thunderstorms in the North East Sea (including the waters of the Hoang Sa archipelago), the Central and South East Sea (including the waters of the Truong Sa archipelago), the waters from Quang Tri to Ca Mau, Ca Mau to Kien Giang and the Gulf of Thailand.

Forecast, today and tonight, the low pressure area is likely to strengthen into a tropical depression, the above sea areas continue to have showers and thunderstorms. During the thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes and strong gusts of wind level 7-8.

In addition, during today and tonight, in the South East Sea area (including the waters of Truong Sa archipelago), there will be strong southwest winds of level 5, sometimes level 6, gusting to level 7-8; rough seas; waves from 1.5-2.5m high.

All vessels and other activities in the above sea areas are at high risk of being affected by tornadoes and strong gusts of wind.

Previously, speaking with VietNamNet reporters , the leader of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that around September 24-25, the central East Sea area is likely to form a low pressure area causing bad weather.

Around September 25-26, the low pressure area is forecast to strengthen into a tropical depression/storm.

The meteorological agency also said that during the period from September 21 to October 20, the tropical convergence zone will continue to operate and there is a possibility of 1-2 storms or tropical depressions appearing in the East Sea, which could affect the Northern and Central regions.
