Northern region has fog in the early morning, rain in some places during the day

In the early morning, the North has scattered fog and light fog, and during the day there is rain in some places. The highest temperature is commonly 19-22 degrees Celsius; while in the Central Highlands and the South, it is sunny during the day and rainless at night.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on January 8, the North will have scattered fog and light fog in the early morning, and some rain during the day, with scattered rain in the mountainous and midland areas. The highest temperature will be 19-22 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the Central Highlands and the South will have sunny days and no rain at night.

Regarding the cold air movement, on the morning of January 8, the cold air mass was reported to be moving south.

On land, around January 9, this intensified cold air mass will affect the Northeast region, then the North Central region and some places in the Northwest and Central Central regions. From the night of January 10, the cold air mass will continue to be intensified and affect other places in the Northwest and Central Central regions, some places in the South Central region. The Northeast wind inland will gradually strengthen to level 2-3, and coastal areas to level 3-4.

The North, North Central and Central regions continue to be cold, with some areas in the mountainous and midland regions of the North experiencing severe cold. The lowest temperature during this cold spell in the North and North Central regions is generally 10-13 degrees Celsius, in the mountainous regions of the North 6-9 degrees Celsius, in some high mountainous regions below 5 degrees Celsius; in the area from Quang Binh to Hue, it is generally 15-18 degrees Celsius. In the capital Hanoi, it is cold; the lowest temperature during this cold spell is generally 10-13 degrees Celsius.

At sea, from noon and afternoon on January 9, the Northeast wind in the North East Sea gradually increased to level 6-7, gusting to level 8-9, rough seas, waves 4-6 m high. From the afternoon of January 9, the Gulf of Tonkin, the central East Sea, the sea area from Quang Tri to Khanh Hoa, the Northeast wind increased to level 6, sometimes level 7, gusting to level 8-9, rough seas, waves 3-6 m high.

Due to the influence of cold air strengthening from the night of January 9, the area from Ha Tinh to Binh Dinh will have rain, showers and scattered thunderstorms, locally heavy rain; thunderstorms may occur with tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind.

Thunderstorms accompanied by tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind can affect agricultural production, break trees, damage houses, traffic works and infrastructure. Localized heavy rain can cause flooding in low-lying areas; flash floods in small rivers and streams, landslides on steep slopes. Strong winds and large waves at sea can affect the operation of ships and other activities.

At sea, on the day and night of January 8, in the North East Sea (including the Hoang Sa sea area), there will be strong Northeast winds of level 6, from noon and afternoon there will be times of level 7, gusts of level 8-9, rough seas, waves 3-5 m high. The sea area west of the South East Sea (including the sea area west of Truong Sa) and the sea area from Khanh Hoa to Binh Thuan will have strong Northeast winds of level 6, at night there will be times of level 7, gusts of level 8-9, rough seas, waves 2-4 m high.

From the afternoon of January 8, the Gulf of Tonkin, the sea area from Quang Tri to Phu Yen and the central East Sea will have northeast winds gradually increasing to level 6, gusting to level 7-8, rough seas, waves from 2-4.5 m high. The risk of natural disasters due to strong winds at sea is level 2. All vessels operating in the above areas are at high risk of being affected by tornadoes, strong winds and big waves.
