To minimize damage and ensure the safety of winter-spring crop production in 2025-2026, the Department of Agriculture and Environment requests the People's Committees of communes and wards to mobilize forces and launch a campaign to eradicate rats simultaneously in two peak periods. The first period will be held immediately after the summer-autumn rice harvest and before planting the 2025 winter crop. The second period will be held after the winter crop harvest and before planting the 2026 spring crop.
Localities have instructed farmers to implement many measures to kill rats, focusing on manual methods such as digging, trapping, fumigating, lighting, etc.; at the same time, promoting the use of specific rat poison, absolutely not using banned drugs, electricity or measures that are dangerous to people and animals. In addition, regularly clearing bushes, collecting crop residues, and cleaning fields to limit the habitat of rats.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment assigned the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection to strengthen the investigation, grasp the developments, and advise on timely prevention measures. The Center for Agricultural Extension and High-tech Agricultural Development proactively builds and replicates effective models of rat prevention and control and promotes propaganda to raise people's awareness.
