According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the harmful worm on eucalyptus in Tam Tien commune is a strange, polyphagous worm (eating eucalyptus leaves, acacia leaves and grass). The damage spreads quickly, plants stop growing and developing, greatly affecting the productivity and quality of people's planted forests.

After a period of severe damage, the situation of the worm has now been controlled. Currently, the specialized agency is coordinating with the Department of Forestry and Forest Protection; the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection; the Forest Protection Research Center to identify the species of harmful worm; assess the cause and level of damage. From there, recommend prevention and control solutions to prevent and minimize damage.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment also requested competent authorities to support localities in researching and proposing effective measures and solutions for comprehensive pest control; selecting forestry tree lines/varieties that are resistant to pests and diseases, adaptable to climate change, and suitable to local conditions for sustainable forestry development.
