Mr. Nguyen Hong Dien requested that units do everything possible to avoid power shortages during the peak of this year's hot season.

The North faces the risk of power shortages.

At the meeting, EVN leaders said that operating the power system during the peak hot months from May to July this year will be very difficult. In particular, the Northern power system is facing a situation where it cannot meet the peak load of the system with the largest capacity shortage of about 1,600 MW - 4,900 MW.

Representatives of PVN, TKV and Dong Bac Corporation have committed to creating maximum conditions to supply coal and gas for power generation to ensure electricity supply during the hot season.

Minister Nguyen Hong Dien requested businesses to seriously implement the electricity supply and coal supply plans for power generation approved by the Ministry of Industry and Trade; the Ministry of Industry and Trade's instructions, the highest goal is to ensure electricity supply for the country.

EVN General Director Tran Dinh Nhan reports at the working session

Mr. Dien noted that TKV and the Northeast Coal Corporation strictly implemented the Prime Minister 's direction in Directive No. 29/CT-TTg to continue strengthening state management of coal production, trading and coal supply for electricity production; there must be no shortage of coal or fuel for electricity production.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade will seriously consider and handle irresponsible individuals and organizations if power shortages occur due to subjective reasons.

Speed up negotiations to mobilize wind and solar power

Faced with concerns about power shortages during the peak of this year's hot season, with many hydroelectric reservoirs running out of water, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien asked EVN to focus all efforts on operating the power system and come up with urgent solutions to cope.

In any circumstances, the national power system must be guaranteed to meet the electricity demand for socio-economic development, the essential needs of people's production and business life. EVN must promote the release of capacity and readiness of power plants, promptly fix power source and grid problems; save all costs to supply fuel to power plants.

In particular, Mr. Dien requested EVN to urgently negotiate and mobilize power plants that are ready to generate electricity, including transitional renewable energy plants to increase the capacity of the power system; speed up the purchase and sale of electricity with signed electricity import projects. EVN speeds up the negotiation process to mobilize renewable energy sources for qualified enterprises.

Also at the meeting, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien requested functional units to coordinate with People's Committees of provinces and cities and large electricity users to join hands in saving electricity; considering this a stronger solution to promote communication on saving electricity, especially with large electricity users.

In addition, EVN and related units need to have proactive and flexible solutions, strictly implement regulations in exploiting and mobilizing water resources in reservoirs; ensure effective use of hydropower in the context of water shortage for hydropower.
