Beryl has caused high waves and strong winds along the eastern Caribbean coast, according to weather forecasters. Airports in Jamaica have been closed as a safety precaution, and residents have been advised to prepare for the worst.

Authorities in the Cayman Islands have also ordered evacuations in some areas and prepared shelters in anticipation of the storm. Streets are filled with people stockpiling supplies, while schools and government offices are closed.

Beryl caused significant damage in the smaller islands of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, where many homes were destroyed and trees were downed. There have been no reports of serious injuries, but the property damage is extensive.

The Government of Jamaica and neighboring countries has responded quickly by deploying rescue and support teams. The Prime Minister of Jamaica has urged people to remain calm and follow instructions from the authorities.

In the US, President Joe Biden has promised to provide humanitarian and financial assistance to affected countries, including sending food and clean water. International organizations such as the Red Cross are also ready to assist in relief operations.

Beryl is forecast to continue moving northwest toward Cuba and southern Florida, the US. The US National Weather Service (NWS) warned that the storm could cause heavy rain and flooding in these areas over the next few days.

Experts advise people in potentially affected areas to monitor weather reports regularly and be prepared for any emergency.

Hurricane Beryl has become one of the biggest natural disasters of 2024, threatening the lives and property of millions of people. Careful preparation and rapid response by governments and relief organizations will be crucial to minimizing damage and protecting people.
