Storm No. 10: Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City railway infrastructure recorded a lot of damage

Due to the impact of storm No. 10 (BUALOI) and heavy rain, the area from Thanh Hoa to Da Nang has had heavy rain and strong winds, affecting the infrastructure of the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City railway line.

Updated to the afternoon of September 28, at Km 466+610 south of Tunnel No. 5, Lac Son - Le So section, rocks fell from a high mountain onto the railway at rail bridge No. 50, breaking a sleeper and deforming a rail on the right side of the route.

Regarding the road and bridge, at tunnel No. 6 (Km 725+210), a large section of the stone tunnel wall at compartment 18 on the left side of the route has been torn off, causing rocks and mortar to fall down, creating a risk of widespread landslides, making train operation unsafe.

The unit blocked off the area to organize rescue, closed the road at 1:00 p.m. on September 28, and restored the road at 2:20 p.m. on September 28. In addition, many compartments had water seeping in and flowing strongly on the walls and vaults of the tunnel.

Regarding signal information, prolonged heavy rain, accompanied by thunderstorms, has damaged equipment in many locations, and some places have lost power.

Units have used alternative solutions, running generators to serve train operations at some stations on the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City railway line (Lang Co, Cau Hai, Thua Luu, Hai Van Bac, Hai Van, Hai Van Nam, Kim Lien, Thanh Khe, Le Trach, Nong Son, Tra Kieu, Tam Ky, AN My, Phu Cang) and are sending additional backup equipment to resolve the obstacles.

Currently, Vietnam Railways Corporation has directed units to inspect the status of railway infrastructure, assess the extent of damage to promptly develop a rescue plan, remove obstacles affecting train operations, concentrate human resources, materials and equipment for rescue work, and ensure the fastest route clearance.

Localities and units continue to patrol and guard key works, locations, and areas such as bridges, tunnels, weak roads, roads prone to flooding, and railway signal and information works to ensure smooth communication and serve train safety.
