Storm No. 11 weakens into a tropical depression, Hanoi on guard against thunderstorms and tornadoes

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on the morning of October 6, after moving deep into the mainland of Guangxi province (China), storm Matmo (storm No. 11) weakened into a tropical depression (ATNĐ).

Due to the influence of the tropical depression, this morning until the end of the night of October 7, the mountainous and midland areas of the North will have heavy rain and thunderstorms, with average rainfall of 100-200mm, and in some places over 300mm.

It is forecast that by this evening, the tropical depression will weaken into a low pressure area over the mountainous region of the North.

Due to the influence of a tropical depression, this morning the northern area of ​​the Gulf of Tonkin (including Bach Long Vi) has strong winds of level 6, gusts of level 8, waves 2-3m high, and rough seas.

On land, this morning in Quang Ninh and Lang Son areas, there will be strong winds of level 5, some places level 6, gusting to level 7-8.

It is forecasted that from this morning until the end of the night of October 7, mountainous areas and midland areas of the North will have heavy rain and thunderstorms, with rainfall ranging from 100-200mm, with some places over 300mm. The Northern Delta and Thanh Hoa areas will have moderate to heavy rain with rainfall ranging from 50-150mm, with some places over 200mm.

The Meteorological Agency has warned that the Hanoi area needs to be on guard against thunderstorms, tornadoes and strong gusts of wind. It is forecasted that from this morning until the end of October 7, Hanoi will have moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms with rainfall of 50-100mm, and in some places over 150mm.

In the past hours, the provinces of Lai Chau, Son La, Phu Tho, Lao Cai, Lang Son and Quang Ninh have had moderate to heavy rain. Soil moisture models show that some areas in the above provinces are nearly saturated (over 85%) or have reached a saturated state.

In the coming hours, the above provinces will continue to have rain with common rainfall of 20-50mm, in some places over 90mm.

The hydrometeorological agency warned that in the coming hours there is a risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams, and landslides on steep slopes in many communes and wards in Lai Chau, Son La, Phu Tho, Lao Cai, Lang Son, and Quang Ninh.
