A different atmosphere at Moments of Wonder

In the atmosphere where K-pop seems to "dominate" V-pop, the music of DJ Snake, Latin J Balvin, The Kid LAROI and DPR IAN at 8Wonder this August brings a very different breeze.

As one audience member on Threads said, "it's top, it's world-class ." The word "world-class" here represents the latest trends in the world, and just in Vietnam, audiences can "follow the top" of the most classy performances.

Continuing the 8Wonder music festival series from 2023, 8Wonder: Moments of Wonder taking place on August 23 will be unlike any other music event this time.

Global music lands in Vietnamese music

This time, the Vietnam Exhibition Center ( Hanoi ) will be the landing place for contemporary artists from all over the world.

Among them is Snake, one of the most famous DJs on the planet and sought after at the biggest music festivals today. He is behind the global hits Taki Taki (with Selena Gomez, Ozuna, Cardi B), Turn Down For What (with Lil Jon), You Know You Like It (with AlunaGeorge), Get Low (with Dillon Francis and Diplo), Lean On (with Major Lazer, MØ), Let Me Love You (with Justin Bieber)...

In May, DJ Snake hosted The Final Show at the Stade de France. With 80,000 tickets selling out in just three minutes, The Final Show was not only the “world’s biggest EDM party,” but also ushered in a new era for EDM, with a unique fusion of genres like trap, dubstep, and contemporary electronica.

Or J Balvin, who is known in Vietnam for his billion-view hit Mi Gente, but with 8Wonder, the "king of contemporary Latin music" also brings many other interesting things, including the "Latino Gang" spirit.

There won't be many opportunities for Vietnamese audiences and artists to enjoy the distinctive reggaeton rhythms, combining pop, hip hop, rap, dancehall and EDM of a true Latin artist like J Balvin.

Welcoming Balvin to Vietnam is welcoming the most vibrant and colorful breeze of Latin music on the Moments of Wonder stage.

Meanwhile, The Kid LAROI, the first Indigenous Australian artist to top the Billboard Hot 100 and predicted by Billboard as the "next global superstar".

At 18, the young artist reached the top with the bold hit Stay featuring Justin Bieber, attracting millions of followers, accumulating billions of streams, collaborating with Maccas and PlayStation, and performing in stadiums around the world.

According to Billboard, "at a time when genre versatility is becoming the new norm in world music trends, LAROI has achieved something else rare: the ability to freely explore styles while still maintaining a level of hip hop."

F*ck You, the alternative rock Goodbye (in collaboration with Machine Gun Kelly), the RnB-infused Go or the fastball rap I Don't Know are also interesting products from this promising star.

There is also DPR IAN who returned after the K-pop concert in June at My Dinh Stadium. IAN, from K-pop but different from the rest of K-pop, with a colorful artistic path from pop, chamber music, EDM, RnB alternative, house to Britpop...

On the Vietnamese side, Soobin and Hoa Minzy are both representatives of two colors of contemporary Vietnamese music.

One is an all-round artist, mastering singing, dancing and performing, music that is close to the latest trends. The other takes folk, tradition and culture to a new level with contemporary thinking.

Both bring a "new Vietnam", modern, youthful in music, thereby introducing and exchanging culture with international friends.

Previously, 8Wonders has brought a series of international stars to Vietnam: billion-view star Charlie Puth (in Nha Trang, July 2023), legendary band Maroon 5 (Phu Quoc, December 2023), rock legend Imagine Dragons (Ho Chi Minh City, December 2024), hip hop artist BI (Hai Phong, March 2025).

Along with that are new musical aesthetics, completely different from K-pop that is dominating and has a significant influence on the appearance of V-pop.

Diversity of expression is important

Bringing diverse, pioneering voices to Vietnam, 8Wonder representatives said the event wants to break the mold, encourage artists to be creative instead of following safe but poor hit-making formulas, and at the same time bring new experiences to listeners. Thereby leading to the progress and diverse development of the domestic music industry.

Talking to Tuoi Tre on the occasion of last year's Ho Do International Music Festival, musician Huy Tuan once talked about the meaning of music festivals, which is to bring artists with a variety of musical personalities and styles and genres as long as the artist is talented and unique.

Huy Tuan gives an example of how coming to Ho Do gives the audience a musical journey to new and different places in the world and broadens their listening range.

At the Monsoon Music Festival press conference two years ago, musician Quoc Trung also said that "audiences should hear new experiments and trends. All of these contribute to the diversity of this music scene."

"8Wonder is also a bridge between global music and the quintessence of Vietnamese music, bringing together established artists and the rising generation of entertainment icons to write a new look for the music and event market in Vietnam," said an 8Wonder representative.

Today’s Asian music lovers don’t have to travel far to indulge their passion for music or catch the hottest idols in the world. Many Asian locations are becoming increasingly important players in the global music market.

8Wonder, with its series of music festivals taking place in many places in Vietnam over the past few years, as well as a number of large and prestigious music festivals in Vietnam today, not only attracts international artists but also nurtures and develops emerging domestic talents.

Not everyone comes to 8Wonder because of international stars, many audiences come because of domestic stars. Among them, Soobin's fans - one of the hottest stars in V-pop at the moment - are not small.
