On the morning of November 12, Children's Hospital 1 reported on the surgery for a child named Quang Nac (2 years old, Cambodian nationality) with a diagnosis of tympanic membrane and severe pulmonary hypertension.
This foreign child's surgery was 100% funded by Children's Hospital 1.
Children's Hospital 1 said that since childhood, patient Quang Nac had been hospitalized many times due to pneumonia. Notably, in the past 4 months, the patient often had fever in the afternoon, coughed up phlegm, and had difficulty breathing...
After a long treatment at Phnom Penh Hospital, he was diagnosed with pneumonia, monitored for tuberculosis, and treated with anti-tuberculosis drugs but there was no progress, so he was advised to transfer to Children's Hospital 1.
Within 5 days of discharge from the hospital, the patient had symptoms of increasing difficulty breathing and was transferred to the emergency department of Children's Hospital 1.
Doctor Nguyen Tri Hao - Head of the Cardiology Department at Children's Hospital 1 - said that the case of patient Quang Nac is rare, with only one case appearing each year. According to the patient's medical history, since the age of 4 months, the patient was not properly diagnosed, sought treatment in many places, and used the wrong medicine, causing his health condition to worsen.
According to Dr. Hao, when admitted to the cardiology department, the child's condition was quite serious and required immediate surgery, otherwise his life would be in danger.
However, the patient's family is in difficult circumstances and cannot afford the surgery cost of up to 100 million VND and intends to request discharge from the hospital without performing the surgery.
"Faced with the above situation, the board of directors of Children's Hospital 1 decided to contact the hospital's social work department to fully support the cost of surgery to save the life of patient Quang Nac," Dr. Hao shared.

The heart surgery for the patient took place on October 30. During the surgery, the diagnosis was that the left atrial septum had a 5mm hole, a 2mm PFO connected to the distal chamber, the proximal chamber received blood from the pulmonary artery, the distal chamber contained the atrium and flowed down to the mitral valve.
The surgery to remove the left atrial septum was successful. After a period of intensive care, the patient was able to be discharged from the hospital on November 13.
