On average, CPI nationwide increased by 3.26% in 7 months

The above information was announced by the General Statistics Office on the morning of August 6. CPI in July 2025 increased by 0.11% compared to the previous month, mainly due to the increase in prices of housing maintenance materials, food, and eating out.

CPI in July increased by 2.13% compared to December 2024; increased by 3.19% compared to the same period last year.

On average, in the first 7 months of 2025, CPI increased by 3.26% compared to the same period last year; core inflation increased by 3.18%, lower than the 3.26% increase of the average CPI. The main reason is that the prices of food, foodstuffs, electricity, medical services, and education services are factors that increase the CPI but are excluded from the list of core inflation.

In the 0.11% increase in CPI in July compared to the previous month, there were 9 groups of goods and services with price indexes increasing, including housing, electricity, water, fuel and construction materials, which increased by 0.36% (increasing the overall CPI by 0.07 percentage points).

The beverage and tobacco group increased by 0.25% due to high consumer demand during the summer and increased production costs.

There are also cultural, entertainment and tourism groups; food and beverage services; household appliances and equipment; clothing, hats, footwear; medicine and medical services; education; other goods and services.

Two groups of goods and services with price indexes decreasing include: Post and telecommunications group decreased by 0.15%, of which, accessories for smart phones and tablets decreased by 1.89%; smart phones and tablets decreased by 0.71%; regular mobile phones decreased by 0.41%; landline phones decreased by 0.01%. In particular, the price of phone repairs increased by 0.29%.

The transportation group decreased by 0.48% (causing the overall CPI to decrease by 0.05 percentage points). Of which, the gasoline price index decreased by 1.5% due to the impact of domestic gasoline price adjustments closely following world market developments.

As of July 31, 2025, the average world gold price was at 3,369 USD/ounce, down slightly by 0.02% compared to June 2025. Domestically, the gold price index in July increased by 1.02% compared to June 2025 due to the low number of gold bars circulating in the market; increased by 49.7% compared to the same period last year; increased by 34.9% compared to December 2024; the average price in the first 7 months of 2025 increased by 39.09%.

The domestic US dollar price fluctuates in the opposite direction to the world price. The US dollar price index in July increased by 0.37% compared to the previous month; increased by 3.39% compared to the same period last year; increased by 3.3% compared to December 2024; the average increase in the first 7 months of 2025 was 3.32%.
