According to information from the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, this year's exam to select the excellent high school student team in Ho Chi Minh City has 3,303 students in grades 10, 11, and 12 from Region 1 (former Ho Chi Minh City), Region 2 (former Binh Duong), and Region 3 (former Ba Ria - Vung Tau ). This is the first exam to select excellent students to be held after the merger.

Of which, English had the largest number of candidates with 779 students, followed by Literature with 481 students. The exam with the least number of candidates was French with 68 students, Japanese with 79 students. The Department of Education and Training announced that specialized schools and schools with specialized classes must send at least 50% of students from specialized classes to take the exam according to the specialized subject they are studying; high schools and general schools with high school level must send a maximum of 5 students to take the exam for each exam subject.

The examination sites for selecting excellent students are located in 3 areas to facilitate candidates. Each candidate will take 2 exams/subjects with a duration of 180 minutes/exam. The exam content will be in the general education program, teaching content of specialized subjects at high school level, and advanced programs. The second exam for foreign languages includes a listening test; the computer science subject performs programming on a computer with programming languages C++, Pascal and Python.

As planned, by 5:00 p.m. on October 3 at the latest, the Department of Education and Training will announce the results of the city-level excellent student exam for the 2025-2026 school year.

Mr. Nguyen Van Phong, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, announced the principle of selecting the city's excellent student team: The exam is graded on a 20-point scale. Students participating in the exam will be considered for the city's selection team in order of priority from highest to lowest exam score (the exam score is the total score of the two exams).

Students selected for the selection team will participate in review and training according to the time frame and instructions of the Department of Education and Training. After completing the training period, students will take the second round of the exam. Based on the results of the second round, the Department of Education and Training will select students from the selection team to join the national excellent student team of Ho Chi Minh City.

The 12th grade students in the official team will be recognized as winning first prize in the city-level excellent student competition for the 2025-2026 school year.
