According to European press, Jota died in a traffic accident in Zamora (Spain). The incident happened at 0:30 (local time) on the A52 highway.
At the time of the incident, Jota’s younger brother, Andre, who is also a professional footballer, was in the car. According to witnesses, Jota’s Lamborghini lost control and ran off the road before bursting into flames. The victims in the car did not survive.

Jota's former club Porto also wrote: "We are deeply shocked and saddened and send our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva - who was also our youth player. May they rest in peace."
