On the same afternoon, President of the National Assembly of People's Power, President of the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernández and the delegation laid a wreath at the Monument of National Hero José Marti (Hanoi).

José Martí was born on January 28, 1853 in Havana. He was an outstanding thinker, cultural figure, and staunch revolutionary of Cuba and Latin America.

He initiated and led the Cuban people's struggle for independence in the late 19th century and died on the battlefield on May 19, 1895. The Cuban people honor him as "the apostle of national independence."

Cuban national hero José Martí was the first Cuban to lay the foundation for brotherly relations between the Vietnamese and Cuban peoples.

He wrote the story “ A Walk in the Land of the Annamese ” praising the patriotism and hard-working spirit of the Vietnamese people, published in the magazine Tuoi Vang in the late 19th century, which later became a classic work in Cuban literature.

He was a prominent Cuban politician and revolutionary, as well as a brilliant writer, journalist and thinker. He was the founder of the Revolutionary Party and organized the Cuban struggle for national independence in 1895.

Despite being half a world apart, the traditional solidarity, special friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba has become a model in international relations.

From the first bricks laid by Cuban National Hero José Martí, President Ho Chi Minh, Cuban Leader Fidel Castro and nurtured by many generations of leaders and people of the two countries, that relationship has been forged through the ups and downs of history and remains strong to this day as its inherent nature.

Over the past 65 years, the special, loyal and rare friendship between Vietnam and Cuba has been constantly consolidated and developed, contributing to enhancing peace, stability, cooperation and development in the two regions and in the world.

This official visit to Vietnam by President of the National Assembly of the People's Government and President of the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernandez is of great significance in many aspects, because this is not only an annual high-level delegation exchange activity between the two National Assemblies, but also a political-diplomatic event of great influence, contributing to consolidating and further developing the special traditional solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and Cuba.

A special highlight of the visit was the co-chairing of the second meeting of the Vietnam-Cuba Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee by both sides. The second meeting is a clear demonstration of the strong political commitment of the two countries’ National Assemblies to continuously consolidate and deepen the special friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and Cuba.

This is an opportunity for the two National Assemblies to continue to comprehensively assess the results of bilateral cooperation in recent times and the role of the two countries' National Assemblies in promoting cooperation in areas of mutual interest, especially after the State visit to Cuba by General Secretary and President To Lam (September 2024), as well as to share information and experiences in building and perfecting the legal system of each country./.
