According to Kaspersky experts, threats will increase due to AI and advanced automation, so financial institutions and agencies should strengthen their defenses more by 2024.
Cybercriminals are always on the lookout for valuable sources of information. |
In its 2024 crimeware and financial forecast report, Kaspersky presented predictions about the rise of cyberattacks, direct payment system exploits, open-source backdoors, and the rise of Brazilian banking Trojans.
In addition, the report also includes a comprehensive assessment of the accuracy of last year's forecasts, highlighting in particular the growing trend of Web3 threats and the need for malware loaders. Adapting to the evolving landscape, 2024 requires businesses to have proactive cybersecurity strategies, cross-industry collaboration, and innovative defenses.
Kaspersky experts predict that AI-driven cyberattacks that mimic legitimate communication channels will increase significantly by 2024, leading to increasingly ineffective campaigns. Furthermore, they expect cybercriminals to exploit the popularity of face-to-face payment systems, leading to an increase in clipboard malware and mobile banking Trojan exploits. Malware like Grandoreiro has expanded its network globally, targeting more than 900 banks in 40 countries.
Another worrying trend in 2024 could be the rise of backdoored open source packages. Cybercriminals will exploit vulnerabilities in widely used open source software, compromising security and potentially leading to data breaches and financial losses. Furthermore, experts predict that the groups affiliated in the cybercrime ecosystem will become more fluid in the coming year, with members frequently switching or working for multiple groups at once.
