
On the evening of October 22, at the Bac Ninh Provincial Exhibition and Cultural Center, Hai Phong Traditional Theater performed the Cheo play "Red Rain" within the framework of the 2025 National Cheo Festival.

Hai Phong Traditional Theatre participated in the Festival with the play “Red Rain” - a work adapted from the novel of the same name by writer Chu Lai, who is known as “the pen of soldiers”. The play recreates 81 days and nights of fighting to protect Quang Tri Citadel, depicting the image of young soldiers carrying in their hearts courage, faith and desire for peace .

Based on traditional Cheo language combined with contemporary staging techniques, “Red Rain” is a tragic epic about memory and gratitude, where blood and tears turn into flowers, where those who fell still live forever in the heart of mother earth.
The play was adapted from Cheo by author Duc Minh, directed by People's Artist Trinh Thuy Mui, composed by Meritorious Artist Dao Tuan Hai, choreographed by Meritorious Artist Hoai Anh, taught by People's Artist Minh Thu, and directed by Master Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy, Director of Hai Phong Traditional Theater.

The festival is organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in coordination with the People's Committee of Bac Ninh province and related units. This is the first professional cultural and performing arts event held after the country implemented the two-level local government model.
The event marked a turning point in the organization, management and development of cultural and artistic activities in the new context, demonstrating the determination to innovate, adapt and integrate of the culture, sports and tourism sector in the process of national development.

Taking place from October 20 to November 2, the festival brings together 12 professional Cheo art units from across the country. Hai Phong has Hai Phong Traditional Stage Theatre and Dong Cheo Theatre participating in the festival.

Within the framework of the festival, the audience enjoyed 21 elaborately staged plays, deeply reflecting social life, praising the homeland and country, honoring moral and humanistic values and aspirations for goodness.
Nearly 1,000 artists, actors, and musicians participated in the performance, bringing unique works, carefully invested in both ideological content and staging art.

On the morning of October 23, the Eastern Cheo Theatre will participate in the festival with the play “Love Story by the River”, a work rich in poetry and full of the soul of the Northern countryside. The play was written by Dr. Tran Dinh Ngon, directed by People's Artist Le Tuan Cuong, composed by Meritorious Artist Vu Van Hoan, designed by People's Artist Nguyen Dat Tang, choreographed by Meritorious Artist Hoai Anh, and directed by Master Do Thi Khanh Huong, Acting Director of the Theatre.

With the participation of talented artists such as Ta Quang Phuc, Nguyen Thi Thu Hue, and People's Artist Truong Manh Thang, the play promises to bring its own unique, simple yet profound color to this year's festival.
From Kinh Bac land - the cradle of folk art, the Cheo melodies resounding in this year's festival are not only songs of gratitude to the past but also a bridge extending the source of Vietnamese culture, contributing to spreading traditional values and nurturing the souls of Vietnamese people in the new era.
