After graduating from the University of Agriculture and Forestry (Hue University), Thao was accepted as a manager at a large farm in Binh Phuoc province, with an income of about 18 million VND/month. This is a dream salary for a girl from Quang Tri, so every month Thao sends her younger sister Tran Thi Thu Thuy (a student at the University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue) 4 million VND and to her parents in the countryside. However, after working for half a year, in October 2023, Thao informed her family and expressed her wish to join the army. The family only has 2 daughters, so Thao's intention to join the army initially surprised her parents. When her family supported her, Thao immediately wrote a voluntary application to join the army and sent it to the local Military Command. By the end of January 2024, Thao received an order to call citizens to join the army. "I'm young, I want to join the army to test myself, train and fulfill my duties as a citizen," Thao shared.

However, when she learned about the 2024 military recruitment, Oanh boldly asked her family's permission to register for military service.
