Injury forces Sinner to withdraw from Shanghai Masters

(Dan Tri) - In the third round of the Shanghai Masters 2025 tournament in the early morning of October 6 against Tallon Griekspoor, Jannik Sinner was injured and had to leave the tournament in China.

In this match, when Tallon Griekspoor was leading Jannik Sinner with a score of 6-7, 7-5, 3-2, the Italian player decided to stop playing due to a leg injury.

The Dutchman also suffered a foot problem during an early save and needed medical attention before the second set. The hot and humid weather in China is believed to have played a part in both Sinner and Griekspoor's injuries.

Jannik Sinner became the first player to retire from two consecutive ATP Masters 1000 events as defending champion. Previously, the Italian player faced a similar situation when facing Alcaraz in the final of the Cincinnati Open 2025.

Jannik Sinner could not maintain his winning streak in his 11th match against a Dutch opponent. For his part, Griekspoor broke his 6-loss streak against Sinner and became the first Dutch player to reach the 4th round of the 2025 Shanghai Masters, where he will face Valentin Vacherot.
