Ukraine's Chasov Yar under threat

Báo Công thươngBáo Công thương25/03/2024

According to information from Telegram channels monitoring the war in Ukraine, the Russian Army has opened a breakthrough after taking control of the town of Ivanivska towards Chasov Yar.

Many images on the battlefield show that Russian forces have advanced close to the outskirts of Chasov Yar. Fierce fighting is taking place in many locations and no significant breakthroughs have been recorded. However, Chasov Yar is not a favorable position for defense and will cause heavy losses to Ukrainian forces if they try to hold this position.

Meanwhile, as the Zaporozhye front is deteriorating, with the town of Robotine at risk of falling in the next few days, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are actively expanding the construction of an anti-tank fortification system called “dragon teeth” in the Dnepropetrovsk region. About 7,000 dragon teeth blocks have been deployed.

“The construction of fortifications in the Dnepropetrovsk region continues. The work is large-scale. There are a lot of specialists and equipment involved. (…) They are working at full capacity. They are producing reinforced concrete structures necessary for permanent structures. They are creating “dragon teeth”, said Sergei Lysak, head of the Dnepropetrovsk regional military administration.

Sergei Lysak added that the construction of fortifications is still continuing. At the same time, the head of the Odessa Military Administration, Oleg Kiper, said that the system of fortifications along the Dniper River is being deployed to prevent the possibility of the Russian Army attacking across the river.

In February 2024, sources in Kiev said that the Ukrainian army had run out of money to build the "dragon's teeth" system for the Zaporozhye region.

However, the key issue with the “dragon teeth” defense lines is not the natural and artificial obstacles, but the multi-layered firepower system to prevent the attacking force from approaching. This was demonstrated by the Russian Surovikin defense line in the summer counteroffensive of 2023. The AFU currently does not have the resources and firepower of Russia.

Regarding the appearance of M1 Abrams tanks on the front line, Russian tank crews operating in the Kherson direction declared that they were ready to confront American tanks on the battlefield.

The Russian news agency RIA Novosti reported that the operations of the T-73B3 tank and its modified variants based on battlefield experience in Ukraine have proven that this is a much better tank than Western products.

“Mobility, main gun and armor have been improved. That is, our tanks are ready to withstand their shots, but not all Westerners can withstand our shots,” the tank commander nicknamed “Shakhtar” told RIA Novosti.

Meanwhile, the mechanic of the T-72B3 nicknamed “Vityaz” added that the crew actually confronted Abrams and Leopard tanks on the battlefield.

“In my opinion, the T-72B3 has proven that the Leopard is not a problem for it,” the “Vityaz” serviceman emphasized.

Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that the AFU had lost more than 71,000 soldiers on the battlefield since the beginning of 2024. In addition, since the beginning of 2024, the Russian Army has destroyed 4 Abrams tanks, 5 German Leopard tanks and 27 American Bradley vehicles. In addition, combat units have also accurately attacked 11 anti-aircraft missile launchers, including 5 Patriot launchers.

Most recently, on March 20, Russian soldiers of the Central Task Force destroyed the fourth M1 Abrams with a suicide unmanned aerial vehicle (FPV) near the town of Berdychi, near Avdeevka.

Meanwhile, due to the high intensity of airstrikes by the Russian Air Force against Ukraine's infrastructure in recent times, many regions in this country have been forced to apply rotating power cuts. In the city of Krivoy Rog, Dnepropetrovsk region of Ukraine, the emergency power cut schedule has been applied again.

An emergency power outage was imposed in Krivoy Rog on March 22, following a large-scale attack on critical infrastructure, including Ukraine's largest hydropower plant, DneproHPP.
