According to a reporter from Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, not only the airport, many highways also experienced local congestion when people from the Northern and Central provinces returned to the city to work after the Tet holiday.
On the afternoon of February 17, Tan Son Nhat International Airport said that during peak hours from 2 p.m. to midnight, there were from 3,000 to nearly 5,000 passengers landing at the domestic terminal every hour. In particular, night flights from 11 p.m. to midnight had nearly 5,000 passengers.
The number of passengers arriving and departing through Tan Son Nhat Airport continued to record highs today with 969 flights and more than 154,000 passengers. This is the highest number recorded during the 2024 Lunar New Year holiday. Notably, in previous years, the record high number of passengers often fell on the 5th and 6th of Tet, but this year, on the 8th of January, people are still flocking back to Ho Chi Minh City to work and study by air.
Of these, there will be 344 domestic flights to Ho Chi Minh City with an estimated 70,200 passengers. This is the highest number of domestic passengers flying to Tan Son Nhat in a single day during the peak of Tet holiday.
