On the occasion of attending the high-level general debate of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York (USA), President Luong Cuong and his wife chaired a solemn reception to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day.

President Luong Cuong stated that 80 years ago, on September 2, 1945, at the historic Ba Dinh Square, President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence, solemnly announcing to the world the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, opening a new era, an era of independence and freedom for the Vietnamese people.

Vietnam has overcome countless difficulties and challenges, steadfastly fought to maintain independence, freedom, national unity and advance towards socialism, for the goal of a rich people, strong country, democracy, fairness and civilization.

The President emphasized that, overcoming the pain and great losses caused by war, siege and embargo; continuing the thousand-year tradition of the nation's civilization, with courage, altruism and peace, Vietnam has made constant efforts in the journey of reconciliation, healing, cooperation and development; turning the ruins of war into development; turning differences into healing and national unity.

Entering a new era, with new spirit and new determination, Vietnam today is a friendly, dynamic and dynamic destination in the Asia- Pacific region; a reliable and responsible partner of the international community for sustainable peace.

Assessing Vietnam's relations with the United Nations and the United States, the President said that for the United Nations, it is a vivid example of cooperation and companionship, while for the United States, it is proof of the spirit of putting the past behind, overcoming differences, looking towards the future to now become a comprehensive strategic partnership...

The President expressed his gratitude to American friends and people, as well as peace-loving friends and people around the world who have wholeheartedly supported the just cause of the Vietnamese people and made important contributions to the development of bilateral relations.

On the other hand, the President emphasized that this achievement also had the valuable contribution of the Vietnamese community around the world, including the Vietnamese community in the US. No matter where they are, the Vietnamese people are "children of Lac and grandchildren of Hong", an inseparable part of the Vietnamese family.

The President believes that the Vietnamese community in the US will continue to be "ambassadors of friendship" connecting Vietnam with the US and international friends, fostering great national unity, and moving towards a bright future for the Vietnamese people.

Vietnam is determined to strengthen and deepen friendship and cooperation with countries and partners around the world, making positive contributions to world politics, the global economy, and human civilization...

In his congratulatory speech to Vietnam, Under-Secretary-General and High Representative of the United Nations for Disarmament Affairs Izumi Nakamitsu shared that over the past eight decades, Vietnam has risen from the yoke of colonial rule to become a modern, prosperous country as it is today; based on its long history and rich cultural traditions.
