NVIDIA Chairman: 'The Prime Minister's vision and message convinced me'

The agreement between the Vietnamese Government and NVIDIA Corporation on cooperation in establishing NVIDIA's Artificial Intelligence (AI) Research and Development Center and AI Data Center in Vietnam has just been announced.

On the afternoon of December 5, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had a working session with Mr. Jensen Huang, founder and chairman of NVIDIA Corporation, and witnessed the signing ceremony of an agreement between the Vietnamese Government and NVIDIA Corporation on cooperation in establishing NVIDIA's Artificial Intelligence (AI) Research and Development Center and AI Data Center in Vietnam.

The Prime Minister assessed that the cooperation agreement between NVIDIA and the Vietnamese Government, which was just signed just over a year after the Prime Minister visited NVIDIA in the United States (September 2023), is an important milestone, demonstrating the strong determination and commitment of Chairman Jensen Huang in turning Vietnam into "NVIDIA's second home".

This event also demonstrates the spirit of "what is said must be done, what is committed must be done, what is done must bring about specific results". Time, intelligence and timely decisiveness are the factors that determine success.

In the coming time, the Prime Minister proposed that the two sides cooperate in researching and developing artificial intelligence to create a new production force based on Vietnamese artificial intelligence with the cooperation of NVIDIA and proposed some specific directions.

Cooperate in human resource training to develop the intelligence and capacity of Vietnamese people. With the viewpoint of considering people as the center, subject, goal, resource, and driving force of development. Cooperate in developing artificial intelligence to exploit underground space, sea space, and outer space.

Promote the start-up and innovation movement, especially inspiring the young generation; develop technology to fully exploit Vietnam's potential through artificial intelligence.

At the same time, NVIDIA Corporation continues to closely coordinate with the National Innovation Center, the Ministry of Planning and Investment, and leading technology enterprises and leading technical universities in Vietnam.

The Vietnamese Government is committed to creating the most favorable conditions for the effective implementation of cooperation contents between the two sides, bringing practical benefits to both sides in the spirit of "harmonious benefits and shared risks".

Vietnam's strong encouragement is a big boost

NVIDIA President Jensen Huang expressed his pleasure to return to Vietnam to announce the Research and Development Center in Vietnam, continuing the discussion with the Prime Minister on the fields of artificial intelligence, semiconductor chips, and technology in Vietnam.

He affirmed that the world of technology is restarting because of artificial intelligence, this is a great opportunity, an important moment for Vietnam. Especially when artificial intelligence is a new technology that is changing the data of all countries, which is a national resource.

Therefore, Vietnam needs to process its own data and turn this data into Vietnamese AI, for Vietnamese industries and society.

"The energy industry has turned water and sun into electricity. Artificial intelligence is the new industry that will turn electricity and data into valuable digital intelligence. Like electricity, trillions of dollars annually in the artificial intelligence industry will be consumed by Vietnamese people and businesses," he said.

Appreciating Vietnam's strong resources and believing that education is the foundation of Vietnam's future artificial intelligence, Chairman Jensen Huang said that Vietnam's strong encouragement and support for this field will be a big boost to building an artificial intelligence ecosystem for Vietnam and NVIDIA.

"We will be your partner and friend on every step, every journey of artificial intelligence. I would like to thank the Prime Minister for his vision and encouragement. The 2023 visit and the Prime Minister's messages have convinced me of Vietnam's capacity and the prosperous future that artificial intelligence can bring to Vietnam," said the NVIDIA president.

Building an artificial intelligence ecosystem in Vietnam

At a press conference after the announcement ceremony with the CEO of NVIDIA Corporation, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung said that the cooperation agreement with NVIDIA is of great significance to Vietnam, affirming Vietnam's potential and position in the ability to research and develop high-tech fields, especially artificial intelligence (AI).

Building a world-class AI Research and Development (R&D) Center invested and operated by a leading technology corporation like NVIDIA is extremely important and is a premise for developing the Vietnamese artificial intelligence ecosystem, thereby promoting R&D and deploying advanced AI technologies. This is also to realize the goal of turning Vietnam into NVIDIA's "second home".

The center will be a place to attract many talents and high-tech engineers to work and live in Vietnam; creating a premise to access and attract NVIDIA's huge resources for Vietnam. NVIDIA will invest in internship programs and scholarships to train new talents and support innovative start-ups for Vietnam in the field of AI and other high-tech fields.
