Within the framework of the 46th AIPA General Assembly, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man attended the AIPA Executive Committee meeting, attended the opening ceremony and delivered an important speech at the first plenary session.
In his speech, the National Assembly Chairman emphasized that AIPA and its member National Assemblies/Parliaments are playing a pioneering role in building a future for equal development opportunities and bringing common prosperity to all people in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
In the context of the rapidly and complicated developments in the world and the region, the National Assembly Chairman proposed three important priority areas that AIPA should focus on in the coming time. That is, AIPA needs to promote its role in promoting regional cooperation more effectively, including strengthening its role as a bridge, encouraging and creating conditions for all social classes and actors to participate and actively contribute to the implementation of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045; AIPA needs to take the lead in building institutions and policies to put regional commitments and agreements into practice, especially in science and technology development, innovation, digital transformation, etc.
Along with that, AIPA needs to actively participate in strengthening a more solid social foundation for regional cooperation, through encouraging, building, and implementing activities to nurture and spread community awareness and identity, enhancing communication, cultural cooperation, education , tourism, organizing exchange activities, etc.
At the same time, AIPA needs to actively expand and deepen foreign relations, thereby helping to strengthen ASEAN's role as a center in the network of connections and cooperation in the region as well as globally.
National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man affirmed that the Vietnamese National Assembly will continue to stand side by side with AIPA to turn ASEAN's vision and aspirations into reality, building an inclusive, sustainable, self-reliant, creative, dynamic and truly people-centered development community.
At the 46th AIPA General Assembly, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man had bilateral meetings with heads of AIPA member parliamentary delegations and partners.
During his official visit to Malaysia, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and held talks with Speaker of the House of Representatives Tan Sri Dato' Johari bin Abdul and President of the Senate Dato' Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah. During the meetings, the two countries' leaders expressed their delight at witnessing the positive and substantive developments in the Vietnam-Malaysia friendship and cooperation, with the milestone of upgrading the relationship to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in November 2024.
Discussing measures to promote bilateral relations in the coming time, the two sides said that it is necessary to continue to strengthen political trust, promptly implement the Action Program for the period 2025 - 2030 to deploy the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership; further facilitate economic, trade and investment cooperation to soon achieve the target of 18 billion USD in trade turnover in a more balanced direction, focusing on potential areas such as Halal, renewable energy, green energy, digital transformation, agriculture, tourism and education and training.
The two sides agreed to promote cooperation on the parliamentary channel through increasing exchanges of high-level delegations, committee-level delegations, and exchanges between female and young parliamentarians; sharing information and experience in building and perfecting appropriate legal frameworks, creating favorable conditions for implementing new contents/areas of cooperation within the framework of the newly established Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The two sides will promote cooperation in monitoring the effective implementation of international treaties and cooperation agreements signed between the two governments.
In the capital Kuala Lumpur, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man visited and worked with leaders of the Malaysian National Oil and Gas Group (Petronas); met with officials and staff of the Embassy and representatives of the Vietnamese community in Malaysia.
With diverse and substantive activities, the working trip of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man to Malaysia was a great success, contributing to consolidating political trust, promoting cooperation between Vietnam and Malaysia in all fields in a more substantial and effective manner; affirming that Vietnam will coordinate with Malaysia and ASEAN countries to build a sustainable, inclusive, united and strong ASEAN Community, consolidating ASEAN's central role in the regional structure.
