Spread love
Mrs. Tran Thi Nu's family lives in a small house at the end of Kim Doi village, Tien Lang commune. Her grandson was born with a disability, paralyzed limbs since he was young. Unfortunately, his parents passed away early, so for many years, the grandmother and grandson have relied on each other. Mrs. Nu's grandson is 7 years old but cannot walk, always hoping for someone to come and play with him. Knowing this wish, every month, the union members and youth of the commune come to visit, encourage and give gifts to him. "For many years, life has been difficult, taking care of my disabled grandchild alone, but every time I see my grandson's eyes light up with joy and excitement when playing with the union members, I feel more motivated to try to take care of him," Mrs. Nu said with emotion.
That is just one of many touching stories in the journey "Giving love - Sending smiles to children" organized by Tien Lang Commune Youth Union in recent years. With the spirit of mutual love, local youth mobilized donations, prepared dozens of gifts including cash, rice and necessities to send to children in difficult circumstances every month. Each gift, although not of great material value, contained sincere feelings, sharing and added strength for the children to overcome difficulties, strive to study and nurture their dreams.
In Le Dai Hanh ward, the free haircuts for children are coordinated with the support of young hair salons. Neat and tidy hair not only helps children become more confident but is also a way for the community to take care of the children's spiritual life, conveying feelings and beliefs that every child deserves to be cared for and loved.

Many businesses and financial institutions have also long-term partners in programs to support poor students. Vietcombank Nam Hai Phong branch has maintained scholarships for students who have overcome difficulties for many years. Each scholarship is not only financial support but also a message: "You should believe in yourself, society is always there."
Another meaningful activity is the bicycle donation program organized by the Hai Phong Red Cross in collaboration with HECHUN Logistics Co., Ltd. in early September. Dozens of new bicycles were handed over to poor students who have overcome difficulties and studied well in many areas.
Nguyen Thi Huong, a 6th grade student at Dang Hai Secondary School, Hai An Ward, emotionally shared that she had long wanted a bicycle. Now that she has a bicycle, she can travel more proactively and will try her best to study well so as not to let everyone down.
It is known that HECHUN Logistics Company also regularly accompanies the City Red Cross in many activities: Giving milk, supporting nutrition, giving gifts to children in difficult circumstances. This persistence shows that volunteering is not just a one-time job, but a long-term responsibility of the enterprise to the community.

According to information from the City Red Cross, in the summer of 2025, the City Red Cross organized the donation of 47 gifts to students in difficult circumstances in Quyet Thang and Vinh Hoa communes, with a total value of 25 million VND. The "Super-heavy pig procession and slaughtering contest" was held at 267 schools in the area with the participation of over 180,000 students, with a total amount of money from the campaign reaching 4.3 billion VND. Schools donated 3,272 gifts to poor students and children of Agent Orange victims, worth over 855 million VND. The inter-sectoral agencies of localities, cities, and high schools contributed more than 880 million VND to the city according to regulations.
Red Cross Associations at all levels from the city to the grassroots mobilize individuals, businesses, and philanthropists to maintain regular support for 1,067 Agent Orange victims, policy families, lonely elderly people, orphans, and poor students overcoming difficulties, worth 378 million VND...
The common point that is easily seen in the activities to support children is the spirit of connecting many social forces such as unions, the Red Cross, the government, organizations, businesses, and kind individuals. Each party contributes a part of their efforts and a heart to create a widespread network of love. Gifts, scholarships, bicycles, or neat hairstyles have given children the strength and confidence to overcome difficulties and nurture their dreams. That love also arouses the interest of the whole society for the young generation, especially the less fortunate children.
Together we care
Not stopping at short-term programs, Hai Phong city has been implementing many long-term activities to help children in difficult circumstances. The city's Red Cross regularly maintains livelihood support programs for poor families raising children through the program "Nutrition for poor and disabled children" with thousands of milk and gifts given each year, opening classes to teach life skills and health communication, helping disadvantaged children confidently integrate into the community.
Local authorities and organizations have also implemented many practical models such as the "Encouraging Learning and Talent" Fund, mobilizing social resources to provide long-term scholarships for poor students who overcome difficulties. The City Women's Union organizes "Godmother" groups to adopt and support orphans' education, ensuring that they can go to school and develop comprehensively. Hai Phong City Youth Union maintains the "Supporting School" program to award scholarships, books, and learning equipment to students in disadvantaged areas right from the beginning of the new school year. In particular, Hai Phong City has issued many social security policies, including the priority content of protecting, caring for, and educating children. The connection between authorities at all levels, organizations, the Red Cross, and the community creates a widespread and sustainable support network, helping children in difficult circumstances not to be left behind.
Hai Phong is gradually building a humane living environment, in which children are always placed at the center. Caring for and supporting children in difficult circumstances is not only a responsibility, but also an act of sowing seeds for the future. The long-term companionship of organizations, businesses and the community proves that helping poor children does not stop at a school opening season or a festival, but is a persistent journey throughout the year. That is the solid foundation for each child to confidently walk on the road ahead, becoming a useful citizen for family and society.
