On November 8, at the Government headquarters, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha received Professor David Rogers of Columbia Business School (USA), who is on a working visit to Vietnam.

At the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha discussed with Professor David Rogers the challenges posed in the process of profound transformation of the global socio-economy , from the old, unsustainable economic model relying on resources and low-quality labor, to a green, low-carbon economy, renewable energy...

In this transition, the Government has an important role in leading, but it still needs to position the central role of enterprises, especially the private sector.

The Deputy Prime Minister said that developing countries face challenges in the transition such as inadequate governance capacity, incomplete legal policies, untrained human resources, and limited modern technology; emphasizing the need for solutions at national and global levels to overcome these challenges.

Accordingly, Vietnam is one of four developing countries participating in the Just Energy Transition Agreement with the G7 countries and international partners. The "problem" in the process of negotiating and implementing climate change agreements is to innovate multilateral financial institutions, resolve equitable relationships between developed and developing countries, between the government and the private sector, and ensure financial resources to ensure economic benefits and efficiency, and offset investment costs for projects with long-term global goals.

Regarding digital transformation, the Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that the Government will be a pioneer and the biggest customer for digital businesses. Digital transformation is only successful when people use and enjoy the benefits of digital society and digital economy; however, it is necessary to pay attention to establishing standards, cultural values, ethics, behavior, and security in the network and virtual environment.

Thanking the Deputy Prime Minister for taking the time to meet him, Professor David Rogers said that, in addition to environmental and climate challenges, there are always new opportunities for cooperation between countries in many fields as well as the participation of the private sector to bring about dynamic economic growth, coupled with environmental protection. Therefore, countries need to invest long-term and sustainably in this issue.

Mr. David Rogers believes that the digital transformation process brings benefits to the government, businesses, people and the whole society. This is also a sustainable development trend.

However, countries need to have appropriate solutions to respond to challenges to balance between developing exchanges and trade in the digital environment and controlling negative and toxic impacts, information, and influences.
