Opportunity to review valuable documents on Vietnamese history and geography since 1966

Approaching old values ​​to open up new research

XuavaNay application is a project by Lac Viet Information Technology Joint Stock Company in collaboration with Xua va Nay Magazine and Su Dia Journal.

The History and Geography Journal was published from 1966 to 1974 with 29 issues (22 volumes). The journal is a specialized publication produced by a group of professors and students of Saigon Pedagogical University, with Dr. Nguyen Nha as editor-in-chief.

The journal is considered to leave valuable sources of information for research on Vietnamese history, geography and culture.

Continuing the journey of the History and Geography Journal was the birth of the Past and Present Journal, which started in 1994 and has been around for more than 30 years. The Journal is the mouthpiece of the Vietnam Historical Science Association.

It is a place with academic forums with the participation of many scholars, researchers, and journalists from within and outside the country with in-depth issues about Vietnamese history, geography, and culture.

Faced with the current changes in journalism and the need for information from readers and researchers, the developers have built the XuavaNay application on the website xuavanay.ai to be able to preserve documents well from the 1960s to the present.

At the same time, it facilitates the work of searching and researching information in the new era.

Mr. Ha Than, representative of Lac Viet, said that the XuavaNay application was developed to digitize and integrate valuable sources of information from the History and Geography Journal, the Past and Present Magazine and books published by the Past and Present Magazine.

In the future, this application will continue to provide readers with valuable images and videos provided by Mr. Nguyen Nha and historian Duong Trung Quoc of the Past and Present Magazine.

Initial steps in building historical and geographical data on cyberspace

Mr. Than added that the XuavaNay application is not simply a digital library, but also an intelligent knowledge assistant with a bilingual interface in Vietnamese and English.

With AI technology, searchers will find more thorough, detailed and reliable information at XuavaNay because the information is cited to each page, each issue of the magazine or book.

Users can also ask questions for the technology to synthesize and answer. Not only serving domestic readers, with this application, people can ask questions in English, French, Chinese, Korean... and get answers in the language they are using, serving foreigners who want to learn about geography, history, and culture of Vietnam.

Talking about this application, historian Duong Trung Quoc is cautious: "This application was initially built from only two data sources: the History and Geography Journal and the Past and Present Magazine, while we also have a number of other specialized magazines related to history, geography, and culture.

In the future, we will integrate more data with the hope of building a diverse and rich source of Vietnamese historical data."

Mr. Quoc said that stating it clearly like that helps us see the initial limits of the application. The application does not have the ambition to solve all the historical and geographical problems of Vietnam, but only the problems that have been raised and handled in the History and Geography Journal and the Past and Present Magazine.

From the first step, he hopes everyone will work together to build a better application, with rich and quality resources to effectively serve the research work of history, geography and culture in the new trend.
